California City To Allow Reopenings, Declares Itself A ‘Sanctuary City’ For Business

The central California city of Atwater has declared itself a “sanctuary city” for businesses.

The Friday resolution passed by the Atwater City Council allows business owners to open, openly defying Democratic California Gov. Gavin Newsom’s coronavirus-related stay-at-home order.

The resolution affirms “the city’s commitment” to “fundamental” human rights. Churches and other nonprofits are included in the resolution, according to ABC30’s Vanessa Vasconcelos.

This is a town of ~30K in a relative rural county. Just north of the town is Castle AFB. Basically, this is an expression of support for local small businesses.

The county, Merced County, has had 200 coronavirus cases, with 6 deaths.

Town Snubs Dems With Their Own Kind Of "Sanctuary City"

 
It has to be tough to be a Republican living in a blue state like California, talk about a minority group... California is still semi in lockdown as they just recently entered into phase two of opening the State. But some resident have had enough and have decided to take a page out of the Dem playbook and have created their own kind of "Sanctuary City." The town of Atwater has decided they will no longer be locked down and the residents have decided to open up regardless of what Governor Newsom wants.

"The [Atwood] City Council heard from a parade of business owners, pastors and residents on Friday who described pandemic-related hardships. Many insisted they could be responsible and keep the Merced County community safe by following safe practices like wearing face masks and keeping social distance.
