Republicans overwhelmingly expect President Trump to be their nominee this fall, but nearly one-in-four GOP voters would prefer someone else.

The latest Rasmussen Reports national telephone and online survey finds that 23% of Likely Republican Voters think their party should find someone other than Trump to be their presidential nominee. Seventy percent (70%) disagree. Only seven percent (7%) are undecided.

===================================================================================

Hey  Trump fans... don't shoot the messenger.  We can argue the merits of polling or Trump's supposed 90+% GOP approval all we want.
But the honest truth here, is there are many of us, who though will vote for  Trump, sure as hell wish someone else was running.

Fire away.

Ok, I won't argue the fact that polls have proven to be unreliable, but who does the GOP have that would be wiling to step up to the plate and is capable of doing a better job than Trump?  Name one person.  I can't think of anyone.

The continual bombardment of harassment, false accusations, drummed up collusion, etc., from the left, makes it nearly impossible for someone fully capable and competent to come forward.  Any conservative coming forward with the intent of promoting conservatism and moving this country forward in a positive direction, will be destroyed by the left, because no one on the left has been held responsible or accountable since Obama became president.

Challenging Trump would be futile and would accomplish nothing more than to hand the seat in the oval office over to Biden.

I find it interesting that there hasn't been more response to this.

As for the 'deluge' ... well .... things aren't exactly looking up are they?

AG William Barr: "I'm recused from that matter because one of the law firms that represented Epstein long ago was a firm that I subsequently joined for a period of time."

Alexander Acosta Labor Secretary resigned under pressure concerning his "sweetheart deal" with Jeffrey Epstein.  He was under consideration for AG after Sessions was removed, but was forced to resign instead.

Pretty solid minority there. And the time for that was in the primary season.

Nikki Haley.  Marco Rubio.  Just to name two who are widely assumed to have the ambition.   They are certainly capable of doing a better job -  even if a "better job" is defined merely as being an advocate for the Republic and the opportunity economy without alienating half the voters before the first vote is cast.

And there's that Congressman (darn if I can remember his name as I type this) who so effectively stood up to Schiff and his Star Chamber. Or Ron DeSantis in Florida or Brian Kemp in Georgia.  Or my own particular favorite (besides Nikki), Sen Pat Toomey.  It is a failure of the imagination to contend that "after Trump, the deluge".   There is talent up and down the national and state GOPs.

The better contention is that after Trump's inevitable defeat, the deluge.    Trump has crippled himself with half the electorate,  and his way to re-election is as dicey as a Vegas crap game.  Trump's legacy may well be the triumphant, radicalized Democratic party he has energized in his wake.

Count me as one of the 23 percent.   When a car is hurtling straight into a ditch,  I say TURN THE WHEEL

Nikki Haley.  Mario Rubio.

Meh. Those two names don't really light me on fire. And Marco (I think you meant?) already had one shot. Nikki isn't really that exciting.

Trump was the best performing GOP nominee, at least in terms of breaking the blue wall, in like 20 years or so. He flipped Wisconsin, Pennsylvania, etc.

Well,  of course,  if you're a member of the 77%.  I'm one of the 23%,  because I see the car heading for the ditch.

1 in 5 Republicans don't like Trump.
That's pretty much the stat for NeverTrumps from the beginning.
Most of these guys did not vote last time and likely will not vote in Nov.
Or, they will vote for some no name offshoot candidate with no chance of a win.
Which is, basically, the same as not voting.
These guys are a write-off. They are known overhead already factored in.

 :shrug:

When wasn't the car headed for the ditch? The population and culture have changed. It's not the 1980's anymore. IMO Nikki or Rubio would've lost outright to Hillary, and if they couldn't even win the primary, what does that tell you about their chances in the general?

But a lot more of us are thrilled to have someone in office that is willing to stand toe to toe with the swamp dwellers.

Not too worrisome because 50% attending Trump rallies were Democrats.  Another part were people who had never voted.  One part Q, who waits for secrets codes and signals from Trump.

Trump's doing much better than he did in 2016, wouldn't you say?

How would that be?  He has done a few lip service things.  No real substance.  The things that he has done I agreed with I gave him credit for.  Few.

I didn't ask what you thought, I'm clear on that score.

I'm referring to the subject of your article - I wager significantly more than 23% of republicans wanted a different nominee prior to Nov 2016.

Oh, I thought you were asking me.  Could be.  I don't know.  But in 2016 nobody had seen him in action.  So you can't compare.  They weren't voting for him for different reasons, and the same back then.

Should not surprise anyone the Republicans don't want TRUMP. He has exposed to many as the ENEMY and will continue to do so in his next TERM. Republicans are not TRUMP's base of support. Some are but Independents and old not socialists DEMS make up his base. After TRUMP unless it is Don Jr the PUBBIES will put forth a RINO candidate and it will not matter who wins things will go back to Globalists and China. America will be way down on the list and that is already being planned. we will be in lock down to destroy the economy again so we have to become dependent on the GOVT. Both parties want that so they can rule. GOOD news the R party will be destroyed and the American Patriot Party will emerge as the opposition party. This will happen out of necessity and many MILLIONS of Americans being hurt in the process. :crying:

RINO's. People who WANT to vote Dim based on their emotional need to be loved and considered to be a "savior",but hampered by their greed and desire to not pay taxes.

The only surprise here is there aren't more of them.

Interesting times. You may be right that a realignment in American politics is coming. Modesty prevents me from naming Trump as the trigger...but he was. It was the left’s panicked overreaction to Trump’s election that tipped the democrats hand and forced the issue about party identity/ideology within the ranks of republican and democrat voters. Independents have clearly had it with both parties.

Trump hates politics, but as a businessman and pragmatist he knows he must operate under corrupt political rules; but really, he doesn’t care about the political labels, he just wants to get the job done under budget and on time and with the least amount of disruption to the customers (middle Americans).

@Applewood

You  are speaking for yourself,of course.

I am not one of those people. The only one *I* would like to see as the US president in place of Trump is ME,and I am not so sure you would like that.

Let's just say "there would be some changes made."

@verga

Yup,and one of them is me.

True story. I have been repeating over and over here this whole virus panic is part of a desperate plan by the Dims to bankrupt the economy to the point as many people as possible are out of work and dependent on government checks coming in each month.

Frankly,bankrupting America while Trump is President is the ONLY way they will be able to establish a globalist "Soviet" government in our lifetimes,and they are getting desperate.

I have lately taken to saying out out loud,sometimes maybe a little louder than absolutely necessary,any time I am in public and someone is complaining about the problems caused by the virus.

I start out with "this whole thing was caused by the DNC and their Chinese friends in an effort to steal the upcoming election.",and then work my way up from there.

Been doing this for more than a week now,and I have YET to say it and get any reaction other than a head nod and some version of "I agree".

And these are all people whose politics I know nothing about,and almost all are over 40 and in the prime voting age.

Even I am surprised I got no blowback,and all agreements. I have never before in my entire life made a political statement like that in public and had NOBODY disagree with me.

I would like for those of you who agree with me on this to start doing this yourselves in public places,and then post your feedback here for the rest of us to see.

Rallying support in politics is best done by letting potential voters know you agree with them by stating specific things like this in public in order for the "non-political" people who only vote every 4 years to hear it,and have something to think about.

We need to turn this back on the Dims.
