Chuck Todd apologizes for airing edited William Barr clip

NBC "Meet the Press" host Chuck Todd apologized on Tuesday for airing a clip Sunday of Attorney General William Barr's interview with CBS reporter Katherine Herridge, which Todd acknowledged was misleading because of an edit that took Barr's remarks out of context.

Todd and "Meet the Press" had come under heavy criticism for airing the clip, which made it appear that Barr had decided to drop charges against former national security adviser Michael Flynn for political reasons.

After the clip from the May 7 CBC interview aired, Todd said that Barr "didn't make the case that he was upholding the rule of law. He was almost admitting that, yeah, this is a political job."

On Tuesday, Barr said that while NBC was not responsible for the editing of the clip, "Meet the Press" should have checked for a full transcript.

He called it a "mistake  I wish we hadn’t made and that I hadn’t made."

The question Todd and NBC must answer is whether one of their people did the dishonest edit or NBC/MTP/Todd got it from some indy Prog-hack and NBC/MTP/Todd didn't have the minimal sense to question why the clip ended precisely at the "money quote".

I cannot imagine that Todd didn't see the full quote before the segment on his show was taped.  It doesn't pass the smell test.  That means he knew it was dishonest before any of the Barr interview was aired on his show.

He's lying when he says he was ignorant of the interview's content.  He really needs to be off the show.  MTP needs another Tim Russert.

Yeah,but where are they going to find him? They won't hire anyone at any of their minor "feeder systems" that is a "Yessir,yessir,3 bag full,SIR!" drone that parrots the company line.

Not that any of their competition are any better. Remember ABC forcing Sam Donaldson into retirement because he refused to quit shouting questions about Monica Lewinski to Bubba Bill as he ran to the WH helicopter?
