Tesla prepared to move out of California amid fight over factory shutdown, Musk tweets

Key Points

•   Elon Musk tweeted on Saturday that he is going to sue Alameda County and move future operations out of California after a dispute over whether the company can reopen its factory there.

•   Musk has been clashing with regulators over local shelter-in-place orders meant to slow the spread of Covid-19.
Tesla CEO Elon Musk said on Twitter Saturday that the company is preparing to file a lawsuit against Alameda County and will move its headquarters and future operations out of California.

On Friday, Alameda County’s interim public health officer, Dr. Erica Pan, said that health orders to contain a Covid-19 outbreak in the region are still in place, and that Tesla does not have a “green light,” to resume vehicle production at its main U.S. car plant in Fremont, California, yet. She also noted, “We have been working with them, looking at some of their safety plans, and have had some recommendations.”

Tesla had wanted to start production again on Friday afternoon. The plant is where the company makes vehicles for Europe and North America.  The company’s headquarters are in Palo Alto, not part of Alameda County.

Unlike other automakers, Tesla’s employees are not part of a union, so it would be easier for the company to significantly alter its operations.

Elon Musk says Tesla to move headquarters to Texas 'immediately' amid COVID-19 shutdown in California
KIII 3 (Corpus Christi,TX), May 9, 2020

AUSTIN, Texas — Tesla CEO Elon Musk on Saturday said the electric car manufacturer will move its headquarters and future programs to Texas and Nevada “immediately,” in response to Alameda County – where the company’s Fremont, Calif., plant is based – advising Tesla to remain closed until June 1 amid the coronavirus pandemic.

Musk also said Tesla is filing a lawsuit against the county, calling the interim health officer “ignorant.”

“Frankly, this is the final straw,” Musk said on Twitter. “Telsa will now move its HQ and future programs to Texas/Nevada immediately. If we even retain Fremont manufacturing activity at all, it will be dependen [sic] on how Tesla is treated in the future. Tesla is the last carmaker left in CA.”

Gov. Greg Abbott retweeted the Tesla CEO’s message, using an “eyes emoji” to suggest he is paying attention to the situation.

Musk has been critical of the shutdown in response to COVID-19, tweeting on April 29, “FREE AMERICA NOW.”

It’s not the first time Musk has teased moving manufacturing to Texas. In February, he changed his Twitter bio location to Austin temporarily, leading some to believe he was hinting that Tesla would be joining the bustling tech scene in the capital city.

He also posted a simple Twitter poll, asking, “Giga Texas?” along with the voting options of “Hell yeah” and “Nope.”

The response on Twitter to Musk's complaint and threat from the t#$t Assembly Critter who wrote the disastrous AB5 was "F#$% you Elon Musk".

Musk response was, "Message received". I do not think he was being contrite, IYKWIM. Anyway, the latest salvo:

Elon Musk reopening California factory against state order

Elon Musk announced his intentions to reopen a Tesla plant in California on Monday in defiance of state orders, inviting authorities to arrest him for doing so.

"Tesla is restarting production today against Alameda County rules," the electric vehicle company's CEO tweeted.

"I will be on the line with everyone else. If anyone is arrested, I ask that it only be me," he added.

Elon Musk and Tesla Motors are not heroes to me. Teslas are government-subsidized POS's, IMO. And Elon Musk is a government entrepreneur making $$ with government subsidies selling products whose utility would not justify the unsubsidized true price.

So I'm :pop41: ing, not rooting for Musk/Tesla or Alameda County.
If, as anti-Covid-vaxxers claim, https://www.poynter.org/fact-checking/2021/robert-f-kennedy-jr-said-the-covid-19-vaccine-is-the-deadliest-vaccine-ever-made-thats-not-true/ , https://gospelnewsnetwork.org/2021/11/23/covid-shots-are-the-deadliest-vaccines-in-medical-history/ , The Vaccine is deadly, where in the US have Pfizer and Moderna hidden the millions of bodies of those who died of "vaccine injury"? Musk is very good at leveraging government dollars so that if his wagers go well he wins and if they go bad taxpayers lose. I have a major problem with that.

Alameda County gives Elon Musk's Tesla OK to reopen California factory

It appears the dispute between Tesla and San Francisco Bay Area authorities over the reopening of a factory in the face of shutdown orders is coming to an end.

The Alameda County Public Health Department announced on Twitter early Wednesday that the Fremont, Calif., plant will be able to go beyond basic operations this week and start making vehicles this coming Monday — as long as it delivers on the worker safety precautions that it agreed to.

Alameda County blinked. It's sad that it took the threat of losing hundreds of jobs and God knows how much tax revenue to trust a company to make sure its people keep themselves safe (adding a couple more safety guidelines to the many already required by the company!).

And now that one company has been allowed to meet safety guidelines by the means of their own devising, the stupid one-size-fits-all overreach is going to be eroded fairly quickly.

Musk appeaared a few days ago, on the Joe Rogan podcast, before this.

He stated that Tesla employs 7,000 people in China, without a single death there-to date.
