‘We Can Safely Reopen’ UPMC Official Says Hospital System, Society Can Begin Phased Openings

There is no medical reason to postpone reopening the economies of areas served by the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, which includes Jamestown through UPMC Chautauqua.

Dr. Donald Yealey, UPMC Department of Emergency Medicine chair, said during a news conference Thursday that UPMC and University of Pittsburgh are prepared and ready to care for COVID-19 patients as well as provide its standard care offerings while pandemic restrictions are lifted in the communities it serves.

“We should be able to celebrate important occasions,” Yealey said. “This weekend we have an important one — Mother’s Day. I won’t be able to see my mom. She lives 300 miles away. But I’ll miss her. If she was nearby, I would want to be able safely interact with her. … With a few exceptions, you can go out and share some of that special time, if you’re careful. You can do that this weekend. You can do it moving forward.”

Precisely.  And this Goober follows whatever the narrative is.  The WHO and the CDC know better, you see.

UPMC guys know their stuff.  It's just too bad the Goobernor of PA isn't listening to them.

To Wolf's credit: he placed all of the territory that UPMC covers* into the next step of loosening restrictions, a day after they made this statement. It won't take effect until next weekend, but it's a start and progress.

*UPMC also has one hospital in Jamestown, New York... an area with no cases for the past few weeks but which Cuomo isn't going to be opening because of his "regional" policy lumping it in with still-smoldering Buffalo, 70 miles away.
