Accusation White House is ‘blocking’ Fauci from testifying is a Dem ‘publicity stunt,’ says McEnany

Newly minted White House press secretary Kayleigh McEnany responded Saturday to allegations from congressional Democrats and their media allies that the Trump administration is “blocking” Dr. Anthony Fauci from testifying before Congress.

Speaking on Fox News, she pointed out that Democrats had asked the White House to have Fauci testify specifically before a House Appropriations Subcommittee pertaining to funding matters at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.

Given that Fauci’s scientific expertise as the director of the  National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, which is a subdivision of the HHS’s National Institutes of Health, has nothing to do with money, the request made no sense.

Taking the quote one paragraph farther:

But when the White House asked for more clarification, Democrats refused to respond.

At best the Dems were trying to divert Fauci from his job - #Resist obstruction. At worst, they were going to ask him questions about which he knew little for the purpose of eliciting incorrect/incomplete information that could form the basis for shamvestigation or shampeachment.

The White House on Friday rebuffed a request from a House committee to have Dr. Anthony Fauci testify at a hearing next week, saying they want key officials to stay focused on the coronavirus fight.

"While the Trump Administration continues its whole-of-government response to COVID-19, including safely opening up America again and expediting vaccine development, it is counter-productive to have the very individuals involved in those efforts appearing at Congressional hearings," White House spokesman Judd Deere said in a statement issued to multiple media outlets. "We are committed to working with Congress to offer testimony at the appropriate time."

This response basically means, "Why in Hades should Fauci's time be wasted testifying before a committee not relevant to his expertise when he is busy with important matters?!"
