The is worst than I expected; already 60% of the beds in Florida are NOT available.  God help us.  Yet our President in his infinite wisdom made a deal to let 2 cruise ships enter with sick people needing treatment!

Coronavirus update: Florida cases surpass 10,200 as hospitalizations continue to grow

Positive COVID-19 cases growing by 1,000 almost daily; death toll reaches 170

For the past week, Florida coronavirus cases have grown daily by nearly a thousand cases and on Friday positive test results catapulted Florida’s total over 10,000, the latest data from the Florida Department of Health shows.

By Friday at 6 p.m., COVID-19 cases had reached 10,268, an increase of more than 680 new cases since numbers were released earlier in the day. The state is also reporting additional deaths due to the virus, bringing the new death toll to 170 across the state, including in several Central Florida counties.

Since March 29, Florida has seen an increase of cases every day by more than 850 and on Wednesday and Thursday a surge of more than 2,000 between two days.

The Florida DOH numbers do not show how many people have recovered from the virus. Department officials have declined to release that information after several requests from WKMG. Orange County health officer Dr. Raul Pino said coronavirus patients must test negative twice in 24 hours before leaving isolation.

Nearly 60% of Florida’s available hospital beds are unavailable, according to a new database from the Florida Agency for Health Care Administration, which is tracking available resources amid the pandemic.

The Florida Department of Health reports there are 11,111 people who have tested positive for COVID-19. The death toll rose to 191.

4-5-2020  It appears that only a little over 10% of people who are being tested are negative for the virus. 

Coronavirus Florida Update: 12,151 cases in Florida on Sunday, deaths surge past 200

Florida added 606 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 since Saturday night, according to the Florida Department of Health’s Sunday morning update. Florida now has 12,151 people who have tested positive for COVID-19 after testing a total of 113,451 people.

The number of COVID-19 deaths in Florida grew to 218.

The state now has 12,350 total positive cases and 221 deaths. More than 1,500 people have been hospitalized.

South Florida still leads in the number of confirmed cases. There are more than 250 confirmed cases among staff and residents of long-term care centers across Florida.

The numbers are expected to continue to increase with more testing. On Saturday, state officials announced they had tested more than 100,000 people, the highest of any state other than New York.

Total cases in FL = 14,504

3 counties on the Southeast coast; Broward, Dade and Palm Beach comprise most of the cases with over over 8,300 cases.  Orange, Hillsborough and Lee counties are the next 3 counties with the most cases with over 1,790 cases.  All combined those six counties have over 10,000 cases.

I suspect the number of active cases is actually much lower than they are reporting.  I seriously doubt they are performing 14-day follow-ups on each reported case.

I suspect the number of active cases is actually much lower than they are reporting.  I seriously doubt they are performing 14-day follow-ups on each reported case.

I am going by the Florida Department of Health website which is updated twice a day.  These are the number of people who have tested positive.  I believe the numbers are more than likely low as some people are asymptomatic and don't know that they have the virus and test results that haven't been counted as of yet.  Also those who are symptomatic and don't want to be tested unless they are critically ill -- emergency room visits are at a minimum rate now which is unheard of during our tourist season.

I think we'll see people dying because they didn't want to chance going to the ER and contracting the virus.

??? NO.  Figures have nothing to do with recoveries -- the numbers reflect how many total cases are in FL including those who are non-Florida residents and are either visiting or seasonal residents.  They were tested in FL -- the data does not reflect recoveries.  Total cases in FL is just that, total cases, whether they are residents are not. It is important data to see how many are visiting the state or are non-residents and have gotten sick and tested positive here.
