Trump: Coronavirus rescue bill was almost nixed due to Democrats’ ‘junk’
NY Post, Mar 30, 2020

President Trump said he thought the White House would have to break off negotiations over the $2.2 trillion rescue bill because Democrats had put “junk” in the legislation that was intended to help workers and businesses cope with the effects of the coronavirus outbreak.

“We did walk away a couple of times, actually, but we thought we were literally going to have to walk away and start all over again they had so much junk in there – and it was junk. Much of it was junk,” the president said during an interview Monday on “Fox & Friends.”

He heaped the bulk of the blame on House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, claiming Senate Democrats and Republicans had a “beautiful” bill before the California Democrat entered the talks.

“And then she got involved and she wanted all this nonsense,” the president said.

Calling Democrats “lousy politicians,” Trump said their policies are no good for America.  “They want open borders. They want sanctuary cities. They wanted to fund sanctuary cities in this bill. They wanted me to guarantee that we were going to fund sanctuary cities in this bill, we got it out,” he said.

The president also lamented the fact that Democrats have a majority in the House and predicted that Republicans will be so successful in this fall’s election that they’ll be in control of Congress and the executive branch.

“I think the Republicans are going to take back the House. When we take back the House, keep the Senate and keep the presidency … this will never happen. But in the meantime, they have a majority,” Trump said.
