Bipartisan leaders in the House and Senate hope to pass a $2 trillion emergency relief package to help families, workers, and businesses feeling the fallout of the coronavirus pandemic.
The measure passed unanimously by the Senate late Wednesday would provide $1,200 in direct cash payments to individuals and an average of $3,000 for families. The measure provides $350 billion in aid to small businesses through forgivable loans and $500 billion in loans to big industries.
The legislation now heads to the House. President Trump said Wednesday he would sign the bill " immediately" if it makes it to his desk.
