In the first Texas Throwdown, XFL style, Dallas survived four turnovers and a knee injury to starting quarterback Landry Jones in its rivalry game against Houston.
Somehow, even with all the self-inflicted mistakes, the Renegades still were within a couple of yards of tying the game late against the Roughnecks, the best team in the XFL.
But a fifth major miscue, this time on a bobbled screen pass with under 2 minutes to play, led to the Renegades’ demise.
Houston quarterback P.J. Walker, the early favorite for league MVP, calmly faced down a constant rush and converted two third downs on the final series to preserve the Roughnecks’ 27-20 victory and stretch their record to 4-0.
