29 Turkish soldiers killed in Syrian gov't air raid in Idlib
Turkish army launch artillery fire against Syrian forces risking escalation of conflict and another refugee crisis.

At least 29 Turkish soldiers have been killed in an air raid by Syrian government forces in the northwestern Idlib province, the governor in the southeastern province of Hatay said early on Friday, raising an earlier death toll, while also threatening an escalation of conflict and another refugee crisis.

The deaths are the largest number of fatalities suffered by Turkey in a single day since it began sending thousands of troops into Idlib in recent weeks, amid a Russia-backed Syrian government offensive to seize the war-torn country's last opposition-held stronghold, which is home to more than three million people.

The ferocious bombing campaign and ground assault have displaced nearly one million people since December, more than half of whom are children.

Death toll of killed Turkish soldiers keeps rising. The tragedy is that those paying the price of the Turkish retaliation will be Syrian soldiers, press-ganged into service for a regime many of them hate.

She absolutely correct, Turkey may retaliate and it will be the poor Syrian soldiers, many forced by the Assad regime and often malnourished,  who pay. Poorly equipped too.

Israel may have carried out airstrikes tonight on Gaza, apparently, erroneously, some were saying Damascus got hit... so, quite a bit to be aware of.

Senator Lindsay Graham calls for a no-fly zone in Idlib, Syria:

So far, #Turkey has acknowledged 29 deaths in tonight’s strike (by #Russia, not #Syria), but my sources tell me the number may be double that.

#Erdogan trying to balance de-escalation w. #Russia, escalation w. #Assad, threats to #Europe, outreach to #NATO/US & domestic politics.

Lister also says the number of Turkish soldiers killed may well be double 29, what we've been told.

Oh, here we go again:

Immediate Turkish response to Russia killing dozens of their troops:

So, yes, it is Russia with the firepower.

Russia has killed more Syrian civilians than ISIS. Why are they getting away with it?

When Aaref Watad, a Syrian photographer, arrived at the scene of a recent Russian air force attack in western Aleppo, he found a car completely pierced by shrapnel and nine corpses. Four of them were children.

The bodies belonged to a family that had been fleeing Aleppo for the Turkish border along with thousands of other families attempting to escape intense Russian air strikes.

“The ground was covered in blood, body parts and some of the belongings of the family,” Watad told me. “We waited for their relatives to come pick them up for burial, but they had all fled.”

Just saying, Elizabeth Tsurkov's twitter account says she hails from New Jersey but she must send some time in the Middle East for all of her reporting.

So, that sounded a bit incendiary, though, she's as knowledgeable as anyone. Yes, the allied side of Russia/Assad/Iran/Hezbollah have probably killed a lot more than ISIS has. Makes you think. All data says that.

By  TM -   February 28, 2020

The United States on Thursday called on Turkey to learn from clashes in Syria who its true friends are and drop its purchase from Russia of a major missile defense system, AFP reported

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan on Thursday called an urgent meeting after at least 29 Turkish troops were killed in an airstrike in Syria’s Idlib region.

Russia is backing a devastating offensive by President Bashar al-Assad’s regime in Idlib against rebel groups backed by Ankara.

Yes, former TX Senator, Kay Bailey Hutchison.   I had not heard of her recently, I did not know what she is doing. Good, she is still serving this country.  Ambassador to Nato.
