Ummmm, was this supposed to be a serious article? There may be ~5000 US forces in Iraq currently, but over the entire 17 years US forces have been there and using interpreters there were as high as 180K US military personnel, https://fas.org/sgp/crs/mideast/RS22449.pdf .
Thanks for keeping perspective PeteS. Some of these articles you question are pure click bait nonsense and I appreciate your vigilance to keep this forum honest.
I have only one example of an interpreter, but it perhaps will give some specifics on what they actually did.
Our son was in PsyOp in East Baghdad on his second tour, and spent plenty of time on the terrorist infested streets of that city. He had an interpreter who risked life and limb to help and protect our troops there. He put himself at great risk from al Sadr thugs, and was completely loyal to our military. Every day of his life as an interpreter put him in danger.
If any human being had a right to be removed from harm, he was.
Just one story. I'm sure our soldiers have many more they could tell.
