At least 14 infected with coronavirus on flights to U.S. that carried American evacuees from quarantined cruise ship
Two chartered flights carrying about 340 Americans who were evacuated from a quarantined cruise ship in Japan have landed in the U.S. with more than a dozen people infected with coronavirus.
The first plane arrived Sunday night at California’s Travis Air Force Base and the second touched down early Monday at Lackland Air Force Base in Texas. All but one of the infected passengers were taken to the University of Nebraska Medical Center for treatment.
Authorities said the group was already en route to a Tokyo airport Sunday when test results showed 14 of them had tested positive for the fast-spreading virus. After consultation with health officials, the U.S. State Department allowed the asymptomatic patients to board the aircraft, where they remained in an isolated area away from other passengers.
