The stakes couldn't be higher for Mike Bloomberg at the next Democratic debate -- which is why he should avoid them
CNN, Feb 14, 2020

[...]

For nearly eight years, I worked alongside Bloomberg, first as an aide in his 2001 political campaign, and later as his chief media advisor at City Hall. I have probably seen more live Bloomberg press conferences, debates, and public events than almost anyone else. Although I think he is the ideal standard bearer for the party in 2020, representing Democrats' best chance for taking back the White House from Trump, I think he would be better off staying off the national stage, letting his ads do the talking for now -- at least until after Super Tuesday.

On top of the hundreds of millions he has been pouring into television and digital media, a solid debate performance will cement his role as the leading moderate in a campaign where the centrist lane is currently divided across Buttigieg, Biden, and Klobuchar. However, anything less than a home-run performance will raise questions about Bloomberg: Despite his overwhelming financial advantage and solid track record governing New York City for twelve years, does he have the raw political chops necessary to motivate Democrats increasingly nervous about their party's ability to remove Trump? Not to mention the requisite debate skills to take on Trump mano-a-mano in the fall.

CNN's Michael Smerconish thinks that Bloomberg would be better off not qualifying for the Nevada debate. "He's been so ascendant without standing next to the others that it's hard to see how there's any political advantage by joining their ranks," Smerconish told me. "If he qualifies, I don't think he has any choice but to participate."

And that's the real dilemma for Team Bloomberg.

  • Dems-greatest existential threat to USA republic!
Bloomberg has zero charisma, and without it, he does not stand a chance to get past Sanders, no matter how much he spends.

He jumps in, he just splits the vote further and allows Sanders to edge ahead in each election.

The big question is will Sanders get the number necessary to take the convention on the first ballot.  With the states allocating delegates, I see a brokered convention, and HRC waiting in the wings.  She will own the super delegates, which get to vote their way on I believe the 2nd ballot.

I thought the Dems did away with the super delegates. Or did that change?

Can't wait for Bloomberg to go away if only to get rid of his awful campaign commercials.  Yesterday, they were all about his supposed friendship with Obama.  Today's commercial told me health care is a right.  Really?  Point me to the provision in the Constitution which says that, Bloomie.

Oh and he will fight for "women's reproductive rights" -- i.e. abortion, probably late as well as early.  Never mind about the rights of those unborn children to live.

I'm not a violent person, but every time one of his commercials comes on, I want to take a sledgehammer to my tv set.  Usually I end up changing the channel or turning off the tv.  A great advantage of streaming services like Netflix and Amazon Prime -- don't have to endure Bloomie's commercials.

All of the commercials I have seen from Bloomyboy, are against Trump.

None are for himself, or aimed against other democrats (incleding Sanders).

At thiis stage, I see nothing to support him trying to prevent the dems from nominating one of their "socialists"
