Cotton, Blackburn, Colleagues Introduce Bicameral Bill to Stop Greenlighting Driver Licenses for Illegal Immigrants
February 12, 2020

Washington, D.C. - Senator Tom Cotton (R-Arkansas) today joined Senator Marsha Blackburn (R-Tennessee) in introducing legislation that delivers tough financial consequences to states that flout federal immigration enforcement and harm public safety and national security. Senators Kevin Cramer (R-North Dakota), Shelley Moore Capito (R-West Virginia), Kelly Loeffler (R-Georgia), Joni Ernst (R-Iowa), and Mike Rounds (R-South Dakota) are cosponsoring the legislation, and Congressman Ken Buck (Colorado-04) is leading twenty-one House members in introducing companion legislation.

The Stop Greenlighting Driver Licenses for Illegal Immigrants Act blocks certain federal funds to sanctuary states, including states that defy federal immigration enforcement or that allow illegal aliens to get driver licenses without proof of lawful presence.

"We shouldn't legitimize those who break our immigration laws by giving them driver licenses. Unfortunately, states like California give illegal immigrants driver licenses and help them hide from federal law," said Senator Cotton. "Our bill will make sure that federal grants will only go to states who uphold our rule of law."

Good.  Need to do more of this and put the house liberals on record and stop protecting them by not putting these types of legislation in front of them.

Sounds good, but will never get through the House as it stands now.
Perhaps in 2021...?

A state seems to have the prerogative to issue drivers licenses to whoever they wish to. 5 year olds, residents of other states, people living in Colombia, etc.  This is not federal jurisdiction.

To ensure the public safety of the country, the feds do not need a law to combat.  This may be Executive Action.

All it needs to do is to immediately stop recognizing as a valid ID ALL drivers licenses from any state that does not control issuance of drivers licenses in conformance with federal laws already existing.

Imagine no passports being issued to New Yorkers.  Or not able to open a banking account at a federal institution due to lack of proper ID?

I think the precedent was set last week by DHS in not allowing Global Entry due to recent NY laws allowing illegals to obtain driver licenses.

  • I was a "conspiracy theorist". Now I'm just right.

Don't leave out "Motor Voter" schemes which register voters when their licenses are issued or renewed, commonly as Democrats. It's a fast track for new Democrat voters, legal or otherwise.

That is why the feds are going with the Real ID.  It is a "universal" verified ID so the non-real ID's wont work for federal ID situations... voting, boarding a plane.. etc

New Republican bill would punish states that give driver's license to illegal aliens

    News February 13, 2020
    Carlos Garcia

It's seen as the latest in the war against sanctuary city policies.

A new bill sponsored by Republicans would cut funding that goes to states that grant driver's licenses to illegal aliens.

The bill is called the "Stop Greenlighting Driver Licenses for Illegal Immigrants Act," and would end funding to those states from a program that issues federal criminal justice funding from the Department of Justice.

The bill was introduced to the Senate by Sen. Marsha Blackburn (R-Tenn.).
