Gallup: 76% of Democrats Would Vote for 'Socialist' Presidential Candidate A new poll shows that strong majorities of American voters would vote for a "well-qualified" candidate for president if he were black, Catholic, Jewish, female or even gay/lesbian, but less than a majority, only 45%, would for a candidate who is a "socialist."
However, among Democrats, 76% said they would vote for a socialist presidential candidate.
In the survey, Gallup asked, "Between now and the 2020 political conventions, there will be discussion about the qualifications of presidential candidates -- their education, age, religion, race and so on. If your party nominated a generally well-qualified person for president who happened to be [characteristic], would you vote for that person?"," and then listed characteristics such as black, Catholic, Hispanic, Jewish, etc..............
