Illinois state prison didn’t honor immigration detainer, released him to the street
ICE officers arrest aggravated felon at Chicago's Union Station

CHICAGO – Officers with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s (ICE) Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) arrested an aggravated felon and immigration fugitive Wednesday at Union Station after he was released from an Illinois Department of Corrections jail despite an ICE detainer on file.

“I want the public to know that this is an example of the type of dangerous person sanctuary policies protect – an aggravated felon,” said Robert Guadian, field office director for ERO Chicago. “This targeted enforcement action was made in one of the country’s busiest transit terminals, possibly putting commuters and travelers at risk. This arrest should have been made in the secure confines of a jail.”
