Judging by the tone of the transcript... things like "I've known this moment was coming" and such... I have to think that he knows this is likely terminal.

Coincidentally, I think his contract is up this year, and I wouldn't be surprised if this turns out to be the end.

EDIT: I read that he renewed his contract just a week before he started noticing symptoms.
