The Democrats Destroyed Their Own Argument for More Impeachment Witnesses and Evidence

As White House counsel Pat Cippollone noted Tuesday, the Democrats destroyed  their own argument that more witnesses and evidence are needed to have “a fair trial”

“... They said in their brief ‘we have overwhelming evidence and they’re afraid to make their case,’” Cippollone said.“‘Overwhelming evidence to impeach the president of the United States.’ And then they come here on the first day and they say, ‘You know what? We need some more evidence.’”

In his Senate remarks in defense of Trump, Cipollone said that any court in the nation would throw out a case “in two seconds” if a prosecutor told a judge his evidence was “overwhelming,” but he couldn’t proceed because it wasn’t enough:

“Think about it, think about it. It’s common sense: overwhelming evidence to impeach the president of the United States – and, then, they come here on the first day, and they say, ‘You know what? We need some more evidence.’

“Now, let me tell you something. If I showed up in any court in this country and I said, ‘Judge, my case is overwhelming, but I’m not ready to go yet. I need more evidence before I can make my case,' I would get thrown out in two seconds.

“And, that’s exactly what should happen here. That’s exactly what should happen here.”

In fact, the brief filed by House Democrat impeachment managers six times declares that they have already collected “overwhelming” evidence of Trump’s guilt:

1.      “The evidence overwhelmingly establishes that he is guilty of both.”

2.      “Overwhelming evidence shows that President Trump solicited these two investigations in order to obtain a personal political benefit, not because the investigations served the national interest.”

3.      “The House of Representatives gathered overwhelming evidence of President Trump’s misconduct, which is summarized in the attached Statement of Material Facts and in the comprehensive reports prepared by the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence and the Committee on the Judiciary.”

The Senate should tell House Dems: This fishing expedition is over.

The Democrats want new witnesses, new documents, and new evidence, because they want a new impeachment hearing altogether. They want the Senate to implement 'Impeachment Hearing Redux'. They want a new second impeachment circus because they failed on the first one. So far, it does not look like the Senate is going to fall for the Democrats three card monte game.

The weirdest part is, the Democrats have proclaimed loudly that they want impeachment ongoing forever. They have said they are never going to stop, innocent or not. They don't care about facts or due process. So why would the Senate grant their stated wish to keep impeachment ongoing for as long as Trump is President? Why would the Senate play Pelosi's game?

They should just kill this farce and get back to real work.
