It would behoove Trump when he returns to the US to give a speech or press conference to outline the government's plans for fighting the coronavirus. The incipient panic is counterproductive, but the White House's current "nothing to see here" attitude isn't helpful, either.

Why would you keep onions under your bed? I’ve not heard of this. I bought extra liquid soap and Purell.

This virus is transmitted like the flu and is easily transmitted.  Think about the transmission of the flu -- one of the ways is through a cough or a sneeze.  It is airborne -- perhaps the cornavirus is airborne as well.  Washing hands may help, but ultimately, even though it was once thought they did more harm than good -- masks seem appropriate.  Good luck trying to order them or find them in the stores.
Romans 12:16-21

Live in harmony with one another; do not be haughty, but associate with the lowly, do not claim to be wiser than you are.  Do not repay anyone evil for evil, but take thought for what is noble in the sight of all.  If it is possible, so far as it depends on you, live peaceably with all…do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.

North Korea
Several N.Koreans Rumored Dead of Coronavirus
By Kim Myong-song | February 26, 2020 11:18

Eight people are rumored to have died of coronavirus in North Korea, a diplomatic source said Tuesday.

The source said the reason North Korea sealed its borders on Jan. 22 was that a number of people there had already died of coronavirus.

But according to the source, the people who died last month were family members of North Korean diplomats in China and workers in Pyongyang.

Death of a nurse and two other women due to Corona infection
February 25, 2020
in Women's News

Narges Khanalizadeh, 25 and a nurse, died at Milad Hospital of Lahijan on Tuesday, February 25, 2020 due to Corona infection. The tests of two women who died in Saveh were also positive.

One of the authorities of Milad Hospital said Narges Khanalizadeh had died due to flu, but she had died due to Corona infection and lack of the necessary equipment for physicians and nurses in the hospital. (The state-run Fars news agency – February 25, 2020)

On the deaths of the two other women, the president of the Medical Sciences University of Saveh, Abbas Nikravesh, told the state-run ISNA news agency that the first case belonged to an 82-year-old woman who had a heart condition, kidney condition and a chronic blood disease. She had referred to Modarress Hospital with acute respiratory symptoms and fever, and died after one day.

I think they are saying Chinese students probably brought in the coronavirus from China... which is pitiful for your typical common Iranian. Even one of the Iranian officials got it. You wonder how widespread it is in Iran?

14% of recovered coronavirus patients in China's Guangdong tested positive again
https://www.straitstimes.com/asia/east-asia/14-of-recovered-coronavirus-patients-in-chinas-guangdong-tested-positive-again
FEB 26, 2020

About 14 per cent of patients who recovered from the novel coronavirus and were discharged from hospitals in southern China's Guangdong province were tested positive again in later check-ups, according to the local health authority.

A positive test suggests the recovered patients may still carry the virus, adding complexity to efforts to control the outbreak.

There is no clear conclusion on why it happens and whether such patients could still be infectious, said Song Tie, deputy director of the Guangdong Centre of Disease Control And Prevention (Guangdong CDC), at a Tuesday (Feb 25) briefing.

According to the preliminary assessment, experts believed the patients are still recovering from lung infections and have yet to be fully healthy, according to Song....

Grounded: No bowling, dining out, or handshakes for US troops in South Korea after first soldier infected with coronavirus

by Jamie McIntyre

February 26, 2020 11:46 AM

American commanders in South Korea have imposed health protection condition Charlie for 28,500 U.S. troops and their families, which places restrictions on activities and interpersonal contact, after an American soldier stationed was found to have been infected by the COVID-19 virus.

The soldier was based at Camp Carroll in a town near Daegu, where the latest outbreak is centered.

The Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said 216 of 284 new cases reported were in Daegu.

Gotta agree with the Health Minister. Don't want anyone to be a guinea pig, but now that he has it and exposed others to it, the data will be valuable.

I was just told on a discussion board that according to a facebook post on a page for Royal Decameron Cornwall Beach, there is a group of 50 from northern Italy who will be arriving in Jamaica on Saturday.  Don't they have the good sense not to go???? They should not even be allowed to board a plane, I hope they are stopped before their trip begins. They will be mingling with not only Jamaicans but with other guests from all over the US, Canada, Europe, etc who will go back home before they are symptomatic.  This is how it starts, folks.

I can imagine what would happen if the US tried turning a ship away like that.  If we denied a ship from docking in Puerto Rico, a Hawaiian District judge in the 9th Circus will issue a nationwide injunction forcing the Port Authorities to open the gates into the general population.

We've already seen low-level State Department bureaucrats green-light Corona flights, without the authority to do so.
For unvaccinated, we are looking at a winter of severe illness and death — if you’re unvaccinated — for themselves, their families, and the hospitals they’ll soon overwhelm. Sloe Joe Biteme 12/16

WHO Director-General's opening remarks at the mission briefing on COVID-19 - 26 February 2020

https://www.who.int/dg/speeches/detail/who-director-general-s-opening-remarks-at-the-mission-briefing-on-covid-19---26-february-2020

Quote

Excellencies, dear colleagues and friends,

First of all, good morning and welcome to our weekly mission briefing on COVID-19. I’m glad that we’re maintaining these regular briefings.

A lot has changed since we briefed you last Wednesday, which illustrates the rapidly evolving nature of this epidemic.

As of 6am Geneva time this morning, China has reported 78,190 cases to WHO, including 2718 deaths.

Yesterday, only 10 new cases were reported in China outside of Hubei province.

----
The team has made a range of findings about the transmissibility of the virus, the severity of disease and the impact of the measures taken.

They found that the epidemic peaked and plateaued between the 23rd of January and the 2nd of February, and has been declining steadily since then.

They have found that there has been no significant change in the genetic makeup of the virus.

---

But the key message that should give all countries hope, courage and confidence is that this virus can be contained.

Indeed, there are many countries that have done exactly that. 14 countries that have had cases have not reported a case for more than a week, and even more importantly, 9 countries have not reported a case for more than two weeks: Belgium, Cambodia, Finland, India, Nepal, Philippines, the Russian Federation, Sri Lanka and Sweden.

But that doesn’t mean that cases may not come back to these countries. But the cases that made it before have been contained.

Outside China, there are now 2,790 cases in 37 countries, and 44 deaths.

Yesterday, the number of new cases reported outside China exceeded the number of new cases in China for the first time.

The sudden increases of cases in Italy, the Islamic Republic of Iran and the Republic of Korea are deeply concerning.

There are now cases linked to Iran in Bahrain, Iraq, Kuwait and Oman.

There are now cases linked to Italy in Algeria, Austria, Croatia, Germany, Spain and Switzerland.

Yesterday a joint team between WHO and the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control arrived in Rome to review the public health measures that have been put in place and provide technical support.

A WHO team will travel to Iran this weekend to provide support.

The increase in cases outside China has prompted some media and politicians to push for a pandemic to be declared. We should not be too eager to declare a pandemic without a careful and clear-minded analysis of the facts.

More at link.

That puts the death rate outside of China at 1.6%, roughly. Bad enough, but that is still less than say, the part of the population who are either immunocompromised or fall into a category of people who are likely to be (nearly 3% of the population in the US). Add in other pre-existing conditions which make a person susceptible to a respiratory virus, and those statistics do not look nearly as bad as the Spanish Flu of 1918, which neared 20%.

IOW, it appears, so far at least, that someone in good health otherwise has a decent chance of beating this bug.

If a political party does not have its foundation in the determination to advance a cause that is right and that is moral, then it is not a political party; it is merely a conspiracy to seize power.

If your barometer of public health is the Dow, no wonder you're scared. Of the 35 confirmed cases in the US, five have recovered, none have died, and only one is hospitalized.

Let's see, that means each patient is good for how many points on the Dow?
