The Wuhan National Biosafety Laboratory is the only lab in China designated for studying dangerous pathogens like SARS and Ebola: Coincidence? Had annual safety drill days before outbreak!

The Big Wobble by Gary Walton 1/25/2020

The Wuhan National Biosafety Laboratory annual management review

•   A "conservative guess" is more than 150,000 are yet unaware they are sick as the incubation period is 5-to-10 days.
•   The Coronavirus has arrived in Europe with 8 suspected cases in France
•   Health experts issued an ominous warning about a coronavirus pandemic 3 months ago. Their simulation showed it could kill 65 million people.
•   Almost 50 million people in lockdown
•   US biosafety experts warned in 2017 that the "virus" could 'escape' the facility WUHAN

It could be the scenario of a Hollywood Blockbuster but, could the mysterious Coronovirus which has exploded in China and other parts of the world in just 25 days have accidentally leaked from China's only lab in China designated for studying dangerous pathogens like SARS and Ebola. "No chance" I hear you saying but it has happened before, in 2004, a SARS virus 'leaked' from a lab in Beijing. It seems highly coincidental that The Wuhan National Biosafety Laboratory is the only lab in China designated for studying dangerous pathogens and is the city where the mysterious coronavirus began!

According to The Daily Mail, on its January 2018 opening, biosafety experts and scientists from the US expressed concerns that a virus could escape the lab. In 2004, a SARS virus 'leaked' from a lab in Beijing.

Chinese researcher escorted from infectious disease lab amid RCMP investigation
Public Health Agency of Canada describes it as a possible 'policy breach,' no risk to Canadian public
Karen Pauls · CBC News · Posted: Jul 14, 2019 3:50 PM CT | Last Updated: July 14, 2019

A researcher with ties to China was recently escorted out of the National Microbiology Lab (NML) in Winnipeg amid an RCMP investigation into what's being described as a possible "policy breach."

Dr. Xiangguo Qiu, her husband Keding Cheng and an unknown number of her students from China were removed from Canada's only level-4 lab on July 5, CBC News has learned.

A Level 4 virology facility is a lab equipped to work with the most serious and deadly human and animal diseases. That makes the Arlington Street lab one of only a handful in North America capable of handling pathogens requiring the highest level of containment, such as Ebola. ...

While there are few details available, experts say this could be a case of intellectual property theft or technology leakage to China.

"The National Microbiology Laboratory would have some pretty sensitive biological research material that ... could be shared either with or without authorization with foreign countries," said Gordon Houlden, director of the University of Alberta's China Institute.  ...   FULL STORY

It tastes like frog, but the flavor isn't far off chicken. (You only eat the legs, not the rest of it.)
@Smokin Joe

Remember I am old - born 1933 and when I was old enough to know what was happening around me, maybe 4-5 years old, I knew my father caught frogs and fried the legs.  I don't think I ever ate one, but could be wrong about that.  He was an Army cook in WWI.

He had a sense of humor and did this at a gathering in our church where people brought food:
He cooked cornbread in cake pans - and put uncooked hard beans in the batter.  Put a great looking frosting on the fake cake.  We went to that gathering and people got the cake, then began to quietly throw it away, saying nothing, so they wouldn't offend whoever brought the cake.  At some point, I exposed father - told someone he did it.  Then, everyone had a good time laughing at what father did.

Heard yesterday hospitals in China are full of sick people and China said they were building a new hospital that would be ready for patients on Feb. 3.  Must be a tent or tents hospital.  That video on this thread that shows people walking in a city, then dropping to the ground with this illness and medics getting there, is terrible.  Also read the Chinese are concerned due to so many medical personnel becoming infected when treating patients with this disease.

Terror In The Second Grade

We had a school lunch one day (I was in the Second grade) where they had green beans and chopped hot dogs baked into cornbread. It didn't taste bad. It just didn't look right. And ya'll probably know how some kids can't stand to have one food item touching another on their plate.

Anyway, Mrs. Lofthouse was the cafeteria monitor that day so there was no hiding the main course in your milk carton. She insisted everyone should eat everything on their tray. I ate well and was allowed to depart. There was quite a bit of wailing going on. The best thing to do was to eat your lunch and three other kids lunches so you could leave and have someone to play with outside.

U.S. Working to Evacuate American Citizens From Epidemic-Stricken Chinese City

WSJ By James T. Areddy and Liza Lin 1/25/2020

https://www.wsj.com/articles/u-s-plans-to-evacuate-citizens-from-epidemic-stricken-chinese-city-11579951256

Quote
The U.S. government is working to evacuate American citizens by air from the epidemic-stricken Chinese city of Wuhan as soon as possible, according to people familiar with the effort.

The operation comes as the death toll from a newly identified coronavirus that originated in Wuhan climbs above 40 and the number of confirmed infections tops 1,300, with many of the cases in and around the central Chinese city of 11 million people.

The fast spread of the disease in recent days across China and around the world, including two cases in the U.S., has raised fears of a deadly contagion.

Roughly 1,000 American citizens are thought to be in Wuhan, and the U.S. consulate there is reaching out to those it knows about to offer a seat on the plane, these people familiar with the matter said.

The plane seats around 230 people, and will include diplomats from the U.S. consulate as well as Americans and their families. Those evacuated will be responsible for the cost.

The Wuhan coronavirus has hit Xinjiang, where China has imprisoned at least 1 million Uighur Muslims. Its filthy detention camps will make inmates sitting ducks.

Bill Bostock
Jan 24, 2020, 5:06 AM

...

The development is significant. If the virus spreads in Xinjiang it could leave the estimated 1 million Uighur Muslims detained in prison camps across the region highly vulnerable to infection. Uighurs call the region East Turkestan.

The camps are filthy, have poor infrastructure, and are packed to busting with prisoners, according to testimony of former inmates. This makes them an ideal breeding ground for disease and infection.

There are at least 465 such camps spread across the region, according to research by the East Turkistan National Awakening Movement activist group last year. (Turkistan is an alternate spelling.)

Coronavirus medic claims China is lying as ‘100,000 people are infected’

The sobbing woman – believed to work at the quarantined Wuhan hospital in China – says she has seen Coronavirus victims dying in front of her eyes

The deadly coronavirus is far worse than the Chinese government has said with 100,000 people infected, a woman believed to be a medic at the centre of the outbreak as claimed.

Since the virus broke out in the city of Wuhan, 41 people have been killed with the number of confirmed cases in China nearly reaching 1,300.

The disease has now been detected in Australia, Nepal, Malaysia, Vietnam, Singapore, Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand, France and the United States.

The fact that it is now proven to be transmitted from human to human is concerning -- I've read that there is potential for an epidemic -- cases are being reported now in the U.S. They say this cornavirus isn't as threatening as SARS or MERS -- but I think it is too early to tell -- and I see the potential for a pandemic.

How to prepare?

The Next Pandemic Will Come. Here’s How to Prepare

.....The biggest lesson, which China seems to have learned, is that the government must be ruthlessly honest and transparent. The more facts, the better. Hide nothing. It was my trust in that Hong Kong website that eventually made me believe SARS was waning. Once trust between the population and the state breaks down, controlling an outbreak becomes almost impossible.

Another lesson is, thankfully, one we’ve already learned. Screening and surveillance, which should usually be used with caution in free societies, becomes necessary in an outbreak and is effective. Even now various airports around the world are digitally observing the body temperatures of passengers arriving from Wuhan, the center of the new outbreak.

Quarantine should be voluntary at first and actively encouraged by employers and government. Whoever can work from home, via Skype and such, should do so, without fearing recrimination. The more people can keep acting on their own volition, the more “agency” they believe they have, the calmer and more cooperative they will remain. Once an outbreak goes out of control, of course, quarantines must become mandatory.

But the most profound lesson is that we must cooperate as a species, with a geopolitical approach that seems to have gone out of fashion: multilateralism. We’ve always been locked in an arms race between the evolution of viruses, bacteria and fungi and our medicines against them. When a new virus appears, it potentially threatens all of us and should be fought by all of us together.

That means a new bug’s genome, wherever it’s first collected, should be sequenced and immediately made available, like open-source computer code, to certified researchers everywhere. (You still need the World Health Organization or some such body to accredit the boffins, lest the genome gets into the hands of terrorists). All labs and scientists should then share their insights with the entire profession........

Somehow it doesn't make sense to fill a plane with people from Wuhan -- even though they are Americans -- and fly them here.

Instead, take them somewhere "in American territory" (Guam, Midway, etc.), and shelter them for a couple of weeks, to ensure that no one has the virus but is asymptomatic. This includes the plane crew. If they "pass" there, then fly them home.

Aside:
Would YOU want to be a crew member on that plane?

The coronavirus is more contagious than first thought. 63 cases are suspected in the U.S., 2 confirmed.  Human to human contact is prevalent in China.  IMHO -- the CDC and WHO is downplaying this.

Case of coronavirus confirmed in Orange County; officials call risk of transmission ‘low’

The OC Health Care Agency said it received confirmation from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention on Saturday  evening that an Orange County case has tested positive for the coronavirus that appears to have spread from China.

The patient, a “traveler from Wuhan, China, has been in contact with the HCA and was provided guidance in order to reduce exposure to the public while awaiting laboratory confirmation from the CDC. The individual has now been transported to a local hospital and is in isolation in good condition,” the HCA said in a statement.

The Orange County agency said it, in consultation with the CDC and the state Department of Public Health, is following up with all people who have had close contact with the patient.

If we can use all of God's creatures, okay, fine, to feed us but Chinese culture for centuries, seems to have gone into the wrong direction.  It seems they eat some animals in an exotic manner and Chinese medicine, potions, are something else.

How can they possibly assess the risk of transmission? The incubation period for this virus is at least 10 days, Wuhan has been closed for awhile now, meaning this person has likely been running around in CA for at least a week.

I read that it was 14 days (two weeks).   So yeah, it's going to be really hard to contain considering how many people have likely been exposed by now.

My husband and I were just discussing the coronavirus this morning and he said something doesn't add up and wondered if it was something manufactured in a lab --it seems so.

IMHO this is likely more transmittable then the CDC and WHO is willing to acknowledge -- this is why China is shutting down such large areas.  Also -- I read that there were reports of medical supplies running low.  How can that be if only around 1,300 people have been infected?  For a country with a population of over a billion people and 1,300 cases are going to cause their supplies to run low?  Not buying it.

Yes, thats why I can't see how they can determine how much damage each new case might have done before being diagnosed.

China is very probably lying about the number of deaths. It isn't likely they'd quarantine 50 million people for 50 deaths - especially in China. The flu kills far more.

You can't trust anything coming out of China.
