House votes to send impeachment articles to Senate
By Olivia Beavers and Mike Lillis - 01/15/20 01:34 PM EST

House Democrats voted Wednesday to send a pair of articles of impeachment to the Senate, a move that launches a trial in the upper chamber and ends the weeks-long wait for Phase Two in the Democrats' effort to remove President Trump from office.

The vote, scheduled by Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) after a month of speculation over timing, cut virtually across party lines.

Aside from transmitting the articles, the resolution also provides funding for the impeachment process and officially appoints the seven Democrats who will serve as impeachment managers, whom Pelosi named shortly before Wednesday’s vote.

The fact he's not going to move to have a vote to immediately dismiss the articles should give us a clue.

The vote was 228 - 193.  Can't find a roll call yet.  Wish Republicans had abstained instead of voting against.

The House voted 228–193 in favor of sending the articles to the Senate. Just one Democrat — Minnesota Rep. Collin Peterson — voted no. Peterson also voted against impeaching Trump in December. Independent Rep. Justin Amash, who left the Republican Party last year in part because of Trump, voted with Democrats in favor of starting the Senate's trial. No Republican voted yes.

My understanding is that because romney, and the other 2 republicans (don't remember their names) are voting with the dems he does not have the votes to pass a dismissal... may be wrong

We just need 51 IIRC.  A simple majority can put an end to this sham.

Here, this is good enough for a roll call:

Quote
All but one Democrat, Rep. Collin Peterson of Minnesota, voted to transmit the articles. All Republicans voted against. One former Republican-turned-independent, Rep. Justin Amash of Michigan, joined Democrats.

Colin Peterson must want to be re-elected more than he wants to be a Pelosi lap dog.

I don't think he has anywhere near 51.  Some R Senators want the trial to vindicate Trump, while others don't.

Mitch can't count on Collins, Murkowski and Romney, possibly Paul, so that brings the total to 49 Rep Senate votes.

In the technical aspect, there is a Constitutional obligation to perform a trial, vindication or otherwise aside. I would expect Conservative senators to insist.

A trial is necessary.  It is the only way to get Ciaramella and Schiff under oath, and the best way to get a perjury conviction against Yovanovitch which is crucial.

I'm not so sure that he can count on Lee either, so that would put the total to 48 votes.

I am still of the opinion that the Senate may very well vote to remove him from office...Roberts residing isn't going to help.
