And bats.  Don't forget the bats in Travis.
👍They usually start to emerge from the bridge around 20 minutes before sundown.

We have ourselves to blame.  We have an Education Secretary, and it should have been addressed in our public schools.  They should have been stopping the socialism indoctrination long ago.

Make up your mind.  Are you blaming the current Education Secretary or the twenty that came before her?

The whole twenty years including these last three.

I thought the federal Department of Education was going to be dissolved and the responsibility for education transferred to the states?  Was that another broken campaign promise?

I've visited Britain four or five times since 2006 visiting my wife's sisters in England and Scotland. The average stay has been two or three weeks at a crack.
Britain is a nice country, and I even like the food.
Nevertheless, after about a week I couldn't wait to get on a plane and get back home.
One huge reason is the feeling of constantly living in a cramped country. The houses are smaller, the cars are smaller, the roads narrower, and there are no wide open spaces.
Would a person living in a third world country think they'd arrived in paradise if they'd managed to secure a life in Britain? Very possibly so. Clean, neat, orderly, and little fear of crime. The countryside is pretty, and the views are often spectacular if you're in Scotland.
Plus, I saw very little evidence of a Muslim takeover even after staying in London a number of days during different visits including one whole week one time.
But for someone who is used to much larger accommodations, it's very difficult to live smaller.
There are other reasons to prefer being an American, like not worrying about getting thrown into jail for saying something derogatory about certain people. That can happen in Britain if the wrong person overhears you.
Let's just say I'm very proud and happy to be an American no matter what liberal nutcases are trying
their hardest to destroy what The Founders created.

I travelled to England in 2012 on a business trip. I flew into Manchester and took two trains to the city of Hull (Kingston Upon Hull) located in North Riding of Yorkshire. Granted it was a working trip, I did manage some sightseeing in Hull. I’d love to go back. Everyone I met, with the exception of one sort of snooty hotel desk clerk, were absolutely lovely, friendly, upon hearing my “accent” wanted to know from where I was in the US.

I had the most wonderful conversation with the driver of the car I hired to take me back to the Manchester airport. A young married man who was with his wife expecting a baby. And “conservative” too. We talked about TV, movies, video games and a lot about guns and hunting. He told me he and his wife really wanted to come to the US on a “holiday”, what we call a vacation and how he wanted to visit among many places, Texas. He wanted to go to a ranch where he could ride horses, drive cattle and shoot guns. : )

If found the food was excellent too. Nothing beats a traditional Full English breakfast and real Fish and Chips with Mushy Peas…yum.

On the train ride I was amazed the amount of wide open country side there was. Beautiful rolling hills dotted with little stone farm houses and stone fences surrounding pastures of grazing sheep – right out of a picture post card. At one point I looked out of the train window to see the ruins of a castle sitting on top of a hill. I looked it up and it was the ruins of a Norman castle date to the mid 1100’s - Peveril Castle.

And in Hull, the only “minorities” I saw were a few Asian tourists and some Sikhs who I presume lived there. Everyone else, quite a lot were blonde haired and blue eyed, not surprising since this area of England was for quite some time ruled by the Danes.

I’m planning to take a vacation to York and a day or overnight trip to Edinburgh. But then I’m much interested in English history from the Iron Age, the Romans, Anglo Saxons, Normans and Tudors.

Sample question from the poll....
Quote
We'd like to get your feelings toward a number of people on a “feeling thermometer.” A  rating of zero degrees means you feel as cold and negative as possible. A rating of 100 degrees means you feel as warm and positive as possible. You would rate the person at 50 degrees if you don’t feel particularly positive or negative toward them.

Looks to me more of click bait than a real  sign of the times.
To be fair, I think the media is giving folks a negative view of the US, not the education system.

Yes, I like a number of traditional English dishes including fish and chips, the Cornish pasty, shepherd's pie, and even bangers and mash (sausages and mashed potatoes.)
But my favorite has to be fish and chips which the British do hands down better than Americans.
And interestingly you mentioned mushy peas which are not just green peas mashed but made with some sort of spice/flavoring.
I love mushy peas, but neither by English-raised wife or my Brit in-laws like it. They're from southern England, and they claim mushy peas is a northern thing they didn't grow up eating.
Love them mushy peas with my fish and chips.
Alas, I can't find mushy peas in my local grocery stores in the U.S.

Obviously the larger percentage are indigenous. But the percentage of young people who were born elsewhere is growing every year and they are going to school here as well.

Not that it makes any difference.

Well, I am used to getting drunk and passing out just about anywhere... with no (unexpected) adverse effects... No snakes, no scorpions. Not a single damn lizard anywhere. I like that.

No snakes, scorpions? That sounds pretty attractive @roamer_1 But it is just so d@@n cold there. My arthritis would be in overdrive. And I do think you said there are BEARS. OMGGGGGGG Besides, it's kinda fun evading the snakes and scorpions...and lizards. Liberal Cali folk wouldn't enjoy it .  wink777

I thank Almighty God every day that I was born here.

But if 47% of the Democrats left for 'greener pastures', It'd sure make it easier to get this place back on track.
maybe ur onto something.

How about anybody wanting to live in another country be given a one way ticket and $10k with the stipulation citizenship is revoked and no Visa allowed for a return visit for say 5 years?

Anybody accepting is a liberal suspect.  After 5 years living in shitholes might even improve their perspective in coming back here.

Would improve the citizenry cheaply.

That's the wonderful part about living in Arizona.  We have Tarantulas as big as your hand and Gila Monsters.  I, personally have a population of Roadrunners and Coyotes wandering my property.

It's nothing like in the movies.  Except the Roadrunners are faster than the Yotes in the short run.  That part's true. And I keep an eye peeled for falling safes and anvils from Acme.

Yes, @berdie , it is... And more than its glory, with the exception of ticks and beaver fever, everything that wants to eat you is big enough to see, and too big to hide in cracks or crawl in your boot... I go barefoot all the time with never a care, except for Chewy's yard art.

You and me both darlin... Stock up on turmeric and moringa...
Actually I like the cold. Makes a reason for a wood fire, and that is a wonderful thing for arthritis.
I dunno, really... It's kinda like trapping in the winter... wading in ice cold water... You get used to it.

And besides... While you're down there bakin in the 100s, it hardly gets 90s here, and the shade works. summertime is marvelous. What a great week that is.

And I do think you said there are BEARS.

Just a big hairy wild pig... So they tell me... I wouldn't know, as I have never seen a wild pig in my life. But I bet you have. Nothin to worry about. just bring a dog and a gun. That'd be a BIG dog to you, I'd reckon... Likely you'll need neither. I have only had three really bad times with bears. One of them wound up with a dead bear, never have lost a dog to a bear, though I have had to stitch em up from time to time, and one bad enough I packed him out on my shoulders, but a cougar did that. See? hardly nothin in 50 something years...

Yeah.. That's winter here... The woods kinda fill up with hippies from time to time... Then we get a real winter with 4' of snow on the ground and -20 or more for a month or two... It's like magic. Come spring, POOF! They're gone.

Did I mention we ain't got cockroaches? Nary a one.

We used to get roaches every couple of years when the city did sewer cleanouts, but now I have a septic system and...no roaches!

@Cyber Liberty
The only time there are roaches here is when folks move from back east or something like that, carrying em with em to infest a house. But they cannot survive outside. So a bug bomb makes short work of it.

Well, this is a wonderful feature of living away from the big city in a Castle.  They tell me as long as I throw Rid-X down the toilet monthly and eschew Chlorine bleach I'm golden.  The system was thoroughly checked out when I bought the house.  It certainly gets warm enough for the bacteria down there in our Summer warm spell.

No cockroaches??? Sounds better every minute. I'll get 'em no matter how clean I am. How about fire ants?

I'm familiar with turmeric @roamer_1  but don't know about moringa. I'll check it out.

I'm not sure about the analogy between ferals and bears.  It could be. I, like you, had to stitch one of my dogs up after he thought he was King Kong and tangled with a feral. The stitching wasn't too bad since he was too worn out to fight. The removal of the stitches was...stormy.

Heh. No fire ants, no chiggers, no nothin... Other than bees, yellow jackets and bald-faced hornets, no stinging anything. You can lay on the ground under a shady tree (or about anywhere else) and just have a nap. No worries. No poison ivy, no poison oak, no poison nothin... Thistle, king thistle, and nettles are around, but that's about it.

Helps a lot of folks... not me in particular, but most arthritic folks see good effects.

It's pretty common with Huskies, especially in a group... They'll get in a pissin match and throw a melee... And you pretty well have to wade in there and beat em apart with a club before any of them get dead.  I got pretty good at stitchin em.

Same takin the stitching back out... Just hog tie em, sit on their head, and get to work

I'm stunned. Shocked, even.

It's only 47%? Among young Democrats. That means 53% of young Democrats, the least patriotic of any demographic in America, still prefer this country. I would have never thought!
