Macy's is closing 30 stores — here's the full list

Quote
In 2016, Macy's said it would close 100 stores after it reported six consecutive years of declining sales. Since then, it has been closing these locations as their leases expire.

A representative for the company did not comment on whether this recent wave of closures was included in the 2016 plan but said that Macy's "regularly reviews" its store portfolio and would update investors on its investor day on February 5.

Somersville Towne Center in Antioch also lost a Sears store last October.
If, as anti-Covid-vaxxers claim, https://www.poynter.org/fact-checking/2021/robert-f-kennedy-jr-said-the-covid-19-vaccine-is-the-deadliest-vaccine-ever-made-thats-not-true/ , https://gospelnewsnetwork.org/2021/11/23/covid-shots-are-the-deadliest-vaccines-in-medical-history/ , The Vaccine is deadly, where in the US have Pfizer and Moderna hidden the millions of bodies of those who died of "vaccine injury"? Is reality a Big Pharma Shill?

Millions now living should have died. Anti-Covid-Vaxxer ghouls hardest hit.

For once, none in my area. The nearest closure is State College, PA.

I have to try clothes on before I buy them, which requires me to drive farther and farther to find an actual bricks and mortar store (like Macy's).

You can now buy things from Amazon and try them on before you actually purchase them.  Unfortunately -- this is the way of the future -- no more brick and mortar.  We will see on-line shopping only.  Not at all thrilled with this prospect.  It is difficult at times to discern the quality of the item from a photo or two on line. I'd much prefer to actually go to the store to purchase -- you can actually review the item before you buy it.

I just read that 2,200 retailers are closing stores this year.

Nope, I won't bother with trying something on and then having to send it back. Thankfully, I don't need to shop as much as when I was working.

I probably haven't shopped at Macy's in ten years -- way over priced. It is in a mall across the bridge from me and the mall has been struggling for quite some time.  We are fully retired now and since we live in Florida we dress casually.  Shorts, slacks, blouses, shirts, and beach attire are pretty much it.  So our local Kohl's or Belk's is where I mostly shop.  Doesn't break the bank and the quality is just fine for our southern living.

The only piece of clothing that I've recently purchased on line was a jacket from L.LBean.  Bought it a little large so it will last me awhile even if I put on a few pounds.

This old bag remembers when downtown Pittsburgh had 5 department stores -- even a Saks Fifth Avenue for more upscale tastes.  One by one, they have all disappeared.  There are a few Macy's locations in the suburbs, but they are barely hanging on.  Yes, online sales are killing them, but I think more than anything it's the ghetto types who made downtown and the malls unsafe.  People just don't want the hassle of driving to a store, finding a place to park (and in downtown Pittsburgh having to pay to park), running the risk of having your car broken into or stolen, maybe getting assaulted or shot, etc. etc.  Much better to stay home and shop online.

Other things are going digital too.  The local newspaper, for example, is gradually phasing out print editions in favor of subscriptions to online editions.  That's fine for me -- I have a laptop and a smartphone.  But then there is my elderly aunt who has neither.  I know she will miss the print edition of the paper when it's gone for good.

Same here, @Applewood . We went downtown every Saturday for piano lessons. While we were playing scales, my mother went to Horne's, Jenkins Arcade, Gimbels. Good times.

I don’t know. Since I lost weight, clothes don’t fit anymore. Neither do sizes. So I have to go to a bricks and mortar store for clothes because I can’t order via mail.

And with clothes, what might look good on the model may look terrible on you.

Whew!!! Not ours!  I buy most of my clothes at Macy’s!

Women’s clothing sizes are so screwy, most of us have to try them on.  A small in one brand could be the size of a large in another.  Men’s sizes are consistent, but not having an actual store to shop in will cause problems for a lot of women.
