Border Patrol Finds Methamphetamine in Intake Manifold

SALTON CITY, Calif. – El Centro Sector Border Patrol agents working at the Highway 86 immigration checkpoint arrested a man suspected of smuggling narcotics Sunday morning.

The incident occurred at approximately 7:40 a.m., when a 26-year-old man driving a white Jeep Cherokee approached the checkpoint.  Agents sent the vehicle to secondary inspection for further investigation.  In secondary, a Border Patrol K-9 detection team alerted to the vehicle.


While in secondary inspection, Border Patrol agents discovered a package hidden inside an aftermarket compartment within the engine intake manifold.  The intake manifold is a component of an engine that supplies the fuel/air mixture to the cylinders and is typically located on the top center of the engine.  Agents determined that the package contained a substance that was consistent with the characteristics of methamphetamine.

We were crossing the border at Reynosa and I was sent to the secondary inspection area. The border patrol lady spotted the tangerines in the several Posada Bags we had and said we would have to surrender them. My SIL took out a tangerine and started eating it. The officer said it would be fine if we ate all the fruit.  A while later she came back and said, no, we would have to surrender them. Her and her co-workers must of wanted a snack.
