If editors and journalists are truly serious about wanting redemption for the former Trump campaign advisor, they should first hold their own accountable.

In August 2015, Fusion GPS co-founder Glenn Simpson sent an email that would launch the biggest political scandal in American history.

According to his new book, Simpson started fishing for haters of Donald Trump who might be interested in funding his budding opposition research project on the Manhattan mogul. Simpson admits that he didn’t know a lot about Trump at that point but suspected the Republican presidential candidate would provide a deep trove of dirt for political operatives to mine.

Simpson, however, did not reach out to Democrats or the Hillary Clinton campaign or the Bernie Sanders team. Instead, he contacted a “longtime Republican politico” to see if he might be interested in backing Fusion’s work. They spoke by phone later that same day.

“Simpson told the Republican operative that there were plenty of preliminary indications that Trump would be a fertile subject for investigation, and that some of the lines of inquiry would probably resonate with the media or primary voters,” Simpson wrote. (The book is oddly written in third-person.)

So has the word "liberal". It USED to mean open-minded and accepting,but then it was stolen by the communists to hide their true fascist nature.

In FACT,a strong case can be made that the word "conservative" in America MEANT "Liberal" when it came to government policy when it came to individual freedoms. We probably had the most individual freedoms of anyone in the world,and it was all protected by a Bill of Rights that meant when it said.

In America,you do not HAVE to "like" anyone,but you DO have to respect their rights to live their lives in peace as long as they aren't harming anyone else.

I would dearly love to see a return to those standards,but I am too old to ever see it come around again and be accepted as the norm.

Both parties are just different flavors of big government with different priorities for their big government control/spending.

The parties are coalitions of smaller political groupings that agree on some issues, and disagree on others.  They unite in coalitions because that's the only way to win in a first past the post system like we have.

There used to be some core issues on which there was near universal agreement -- protection of free political speech, control over the borders, respect for elections, etc..  Because clear majorities agreed on those things, we argued about other things like the size/scope of government.

But those issues have now moved from being essentially non-political to being core issues of dispute for which we have to fight.   Because the political battleground has broadened beyond the debate over the role of government, and now involves fighting over even more fundamental questions, the coalition has changed.

I'm a small government conservative who would love to get back to that fight.  But the fight that the left has now started over those broader issues must be given priority, or everything else is moot.

You know why? Because that's what the people want.  Oh, sure they say that they want the government to cut spending and reduce the size of government...UNTIL it affects their pet programs.

That's the truth! Cutting spending is good...but don't touch mine! And that is sad in all phases of life.

That's because we've gone past critical mass on the takers voting to take from the makers. There's likely no going back. The Republicans are at least as much responsible for this situation as the Democrats. Republicans have moved a large number of people off the federal income taxes rolls reducing the number of people with skin in the game. It then becomes real easy to vote for more taxes on someone else. Both parties continue to expanded government spending more and more printed money with no end in sight.

It won't end well.
