Live  General election 2019 live: Result 'too close to call' as voting continues - latest news

General election day has finally arrived, and voters are going to the polls - with the Telegraph’s final poll of the campaign showing the general election is now “too close to call”.

The exclusive Savanta ComRes survey puts the Conservatives on 41 per cent ahead of Labour on 36 per cent, the smallest Tory lead since mid-October.

The result would give the Prime Minister a narrow majority of just six, although the poll predicts a hung parliament as a “plausible” outcome.

“This election is our chance to end the gridlock but the result is on a knife-edge," Mr Johnson said, as  party leaders made the final push in what has been dubbed "the most important election in a generation".

Unfortunately, I think this will end up with more gridlock, more of the same... I looked at all the parties. The BREXIT party runs too. So, whatever, I hope things work for an effective government. I'd be for BREXIT but I am not sure if I am for everything in a hard Brexit. But Farage surely knows what he is doing.

They said, we may start hearing results (exit polling) at 10 PM UK time, so they are I believe five hours ahead of the Eastern time zone  Okay, 8:30 there, so that's about 90 minutes. It will be 5 PM EST, 4 CST, 3 MTN, 2 Pacific... if I've got this correct.

General election: Pound surges as exit poll predicts big Tory majority

The pound has surged after a closely-watched exit poll predicted the Conservatives had secured a majority in the general election.

Sterling bounced from $1.3162 to beyond $1.34 - a gain of more than 2% - after the Ipsos Mori survey for Sky News, the BBC and ITV News was published.

I'm watching live coverage of the results on BBC World News cable channel. It's very interesting, it has the feel of the 2016 US Election results, the BBC News presenters are clearly shocked at the results.   :2popcorn:
