Democrats unveil articles of impeachment against Trump

House Democrats on Tuesday said they would bring two articles of impeachment against President Trump, setting up just the third vote to impeach a U.S. president in history.

Democrats are bringing two charges against Trump: that he abused the power of his office and that he obstructed Congress in the impeachment inquiry.

"It is an impeachable offense for a president to use the powers of his office to seek a personal benefit," House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jerrold Nadler (D-N.Y.) said in introducing the first article.

Both of the charges are related to the unfolding controversy surrounding Trump's efforts to pressure Ukraine's government to conduct an investigation of one of Trump's political rivals — former Vice President Joe Biden.

Democrats allege that Trump withheld security aid to Ukraine and refused to meet with Ukraine's president unless that country opened an investigation in Biden and his son Hunter, who worked on the board of the Ukrainian energy firm Burisma Holdings.

Republicans say Democrats have failed to provide the evidence to back up their case. They also say Democrats are seeking to remove a president they cannot defeat at the ballot box.

IMHO regardless if he is impeached or not, has a trial in the Senate and remains our President, Schift and Pelosi have already reiterated time and time again, that IF Trump remains president the 2020 election will not be a fair election. The DEMS are laying the groundwork as to why they will lose in 2020; interference in the election and corruption.  That is the message that they keep sending to the American public.  They are already making Trump's re-election invalid.  Yet the DEMS state one of the articles of impeachment is obstructing Congress???  Seems to me to be just the opposite; Congress IS obstructing this President.

I fear the retaliation from the left, including their voting base, should Trump be re-elected.

After all the hype, I'll be interested to see if this watered-down travesty is enough to satisfy the base? They wanted raw red meat and Pelosi's giving them tofu and sprouts.

Making it easy to dismiss also avoids calling Schiff or the Bidens, and tying up Sanders and Warren during the primaries. And by ignoring the Mueller report, which they once claimed held compelling grounds for impeachment, they avoid reopening that can of worms.
