Pelosi says ‘we’re still in’ Paris agreement at UN climate conference, despite Trump’s withdrawal

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi seems a little confused about the official U.S. position on a global climate change agreement.

At a United Nations summit on Monday, the California Democrat assured world leaders that the United States “is still in” on global efforts to fight climate change, appearing to disregard President Trump’s decision to withdraw from the Paris climate accord.

“This is a mission, this is a passion, this is a scientifically-based approach, to all,” Pelosi said at the 2019 United Nations Framework Convention on Climate in Madrid.

“We are here to say to all of you, on behalf of the House of Representatives and the Congress of the United States, we’re still in it,” she added, apparently referring to the ongoing involvement of Congress in climate change.

Technically, she's right.  Trump only gave the required one year notice of withdrawal.  The actual withdrawal won't happen until next November.

I'd have preferred if he'd taken the position that not only are the goals in the Agreement not binding on the U.S., but that the withdrawal provisions aren't binding on Trump because it was never ratified by the Senate.  He can withdraw any time he'd like regardless of what Obama signed.

It was never ratified by the Senate, so we may have participated voluntarily, but it was never binding.
