Zimbabwe ‘on brink of man-made starvation,’ U.N. expert warns, forcing women and children to turn to desperate means

Zimbabwe is on the brink of “man-made starvation," a United Nations expert warned.

More than half of the southern African country is currently food insecure and nine out of 10 children ages six months to two-years-old are not consuming a sufficient diet, according to Hilal Elver, the U.N.'s Special Rapporteur on the right to food.

Following an 11-day trip to Zimbabwe, Elver warned of the impending crisis and the sacrifices some women and children have been forced to make in order to survive.

Zimbabwe was once the breadbasket of Africa supplying food to one-third of the continent before socialism showed up.

June of 2000 the government announced that it would begin to seize white owned farms. 3000 white owned farms were seized and thousands of black Zimbabweans were resettled on the land.

Now that Mugabe is dead it's "safe" for the UN to admit Zimbabwe's condition and its cause? Where was the UN when Mugabe's thugs seized farms from people who had farmed there for decades or generations?
