Researchers have big outstanding questions about the puppy they have named Dogor - "friend" in a language of the Siberian area where the creature spent 18,000 years in permafrost.

They're still trying to figure out if the tiny animal is a dog or wolf. They wonder whether he could be part of the evolutionary bridge that turned a fierce wild animal into man's best friend.

They don't have to speculate about what Dogor looked like, however, because icy conditions have left him remarkably frozen in time. Scientists can touch his fur, lift his padded paws and pull back his lips to bare small, yellowed teeth.

Meet Dogor, the 18,000-Year-Old Prehistoric Puppy Scientists Found Beneath Siberia's Permafrost

Meet Dogor, the prehistoric puppy buried in Russia’s permafrost for the last 18,000 years.

The good boy, believed to have died at two months old, was discovered last year in frozen mud in Yakutsk, a port city in eastern Siberia. Even though experts speculate it may have been the oldest living dog, its features are unusually well-preserved.

“This puppy has all its limbs, pelage [or] fur, even whiskers,” said Nikolai Androsov, the director of the private museum Northern World private museum, which is storing its remains, CBS News reported. “The nose is visible. There are teeth.”

Only 2 months old, I'm sorry the poor thing froze if I have that correct... nonetheless, an interesting story.

Mods: If this is "archaeology", please move it. I was unsure.
