Cartel blockades, gunfire leave 1 dead in Mexico border city

Alfredo PeÑa, Associated Press Updated 2:40 pm CST, Saturday, November 16, 2019

CIUDAD VICTORIA, Mexico (AP) — Gangsters unleashed mayhem in the northern border city of Nuevo Laredo, across from Laredo, Texas, blocking major avenues, burning vehicles and engaging soldiers in shootouts that left one suspected gunman dead.

The Tamaulipas state security agency known as the Coordinating Group for the Construction of Peace in Tamaulipas said armed men carjacked civilians and also seized large trucks late Friday and used them to blockade main streets, including some leading to international border bridges, though operations at crossings were not affected.

At least three vehicles were torched while others were upended or simply abandoned, and charred cars remained on the streets Saturday waiting for authorities to remove them.

Just think, we can have these fun shootouts almost daily in this country, too!  All that needs to be done is keep the borders open so gangsters can float between the U.S and Mejico! :knifefight:

Yes, that carjacking, I guess, there are parts of the border where you are more likely to be the victim of one of these "carjackings" and this is one of those parts. I wouldn't want to be around for that. Posted in forum,  a video last weekend of an alleged Cartel blockading and the guy with US license plates scurried around it and came back to the USA. You would be lucky if they just asked for a toll or bribe but it could be much worse and cost you your life.

Perhaps it's time for an Israeli-style 35-foot-high border barrier with NO crossing points -- NONE at all -- the entire length of the border.

Nothing comes across.
Not goods.
Not people.

If one wishes to transit between Mexico and the USA, it should be done by air or by sea.
Much easier to police and control.
