Trump agrees not to press Senate Republicans for immediate dismissal of charges
by David M. Drucker
 | November 21, 2019 06:26 PM

President Trump has opted against pressuring Senate Republicans to immediately dismiss articles of impeachment, sparing the party the prospect of a clash at the outset of an election year.

White House counsel Pat Cipollone signaled during a Thursday meeting with key Senate Republicans that Trump has concluded he has more to gain politically from presenting a detailed defense at trial than from no trial at all, said GOP sources familiar with the discussion.

That decision should shield Senate Republicans from the damaging backlash from the conservative base that might ensue — at the onset of GOP primary season — if Trump demands that they use their 53-seat majority to shield him from an impeachment trial.

It sure says a lot about how little party discipline there is in the Pub party. If 53 Pub Senators can't see what a disgraceful sham the House proceedings are they need to be replaced.

LOL.  McConnell told President Trump what the Senate would do last month.

I had the impression that Trump was actually looking forward to a Senate trial, which, at least in his expectation would include calling witnesses the 'Rats have ignored, like the Bidens père et fils, and maybe some disaffected Ukranians MPs like the one in my recently posted thread http://www.gopbriefingroom.com/index.php/topic,383066.0.html or the one Elderberry posted http://www.gopbriefingroom.com/index.php/topic,383197.0.html.  And lines of questioning the 'Rats shut down of the witnesses they liked would be pursued in full.

Dismissing charges would be seen as merely political.  Having a trial and exposing a lot of stuff the 'Rats want hidden would be more useful to Trump, to the GOP as a whole, and even to the health of the Republic.
And when they behead your own people in the wars which are to come, then you will know what this was all about.

Keep in mind that those 53 Senators will be voting to decide whether or not to impeach him.  Weeding out the RINO's should have been done a long time ago ...here we sit.  Sad, but true.

Good move! It calls the Democrats BLUFF. If it goes to trial in the Senate then SIX, count them, SIX, Dem presidential candidates who are Senators will be forced to sit as jurors for WEEKS (and 6 days a week) right in the middle of the campaign. CBS News was just crybabying about that fact.

The Senate does not impeach.  They convict and remove from office.

"Trump agrees not to press Senate Republicans for immediate dismissal of charges..."

Just because he chooses not to "press them" doesn't mean that they can't go ahead and dismiss them anyway...  ;)
