Fiona Hill says White House officials watched as Rudy Giuliani effectively hijacked U.S. policy towards Ukraine.
Giuliani “was clearly pushing forward issues and ideas that would probably come back to haunt us,†she testifies to impeachment inquiry.
Hill says former national security advisor John Bolton instructed her to tell lawyers he was “not part of whatever drug deal Sondland and Mulvaney were cooking up.â€
WASHINGTON – Fiona Hill, the former top Russia expert at the National Security Council, testified Thursday that top officials in the Trump administration became increasingly frustrated as they watched President Donald Trump’s personal lawyer, Rudy Giuliani, effectively hijack U.S. policy towards Ukraine earlier this year.
Hill also told the House Intelligence Committee that it was clear to her and those around her that Giuliani was pushing a different agenda than the official position of the United States, and that his actions concerned her and frustrated her boss, then-national security advisor John Bolton.
At one point, Hill said, she asked Bolton if there was anything they could do to get Giuliani to halt his public campaign to get the U.S. ambassador to the Ukraine, Marie Yovanovitch, removed from her post.
Hill recalled that Bolton “looked pained, and basically indicated with body language that there was nothing which we could do about it. And he then, in the course of that discussion, said that Rudy Giuliani was a hand grenade that was going to blow everyone up.â€
