Britain's Prince Andrew halts public duties over sex scandal
Andy Bruce

LONDON (Reuters) - Britain’s Prince Andrew stepped down from public duties on Wednesday, saying the controversy surrounding his ill-judged association with late U.S. financier Jeffrey Epstein had caused major disruption to the royal family’s work.

Andrew, Queen Elizabeth’s second son, denies an allegation that he had sex with a 17-year-old girl procured for him by his friend Epstein, who killed himself in a U.S. prison while awaiting trial on sex trafficking charges.

The scandal has escalated since Andrew’s rambling explanations in a disastrous TV interview aired on Saturday left many viewers incredulous, and his apparent lack of compassion for Epstein’s victims drew widespread condemnation.

Prince Andrew Considers the Nuclear Option: Another TV Interview

Prince Andrew may be considering taking part in another sit-down TV interview as he fights to retain a meaningful position in public life in the aftermath of his spectacularly misjudged BBC interview.

However, Andrew’s hopes of rehabilitation appeared vanishingly small after he sustained even more blows to his reputation Wednesday. He was sacked by more charities and youth organizations, told by sponsors to stand aside from his flagship program—Pitch at the Palace—or face losing their support, and was pulled from a scheduled public engagement.

The prince’s credibility was also further damaged when a hole was blown in his account of a trip to New York, in which he implied he would have been too busy to have sex with Jeffrey Epstein accuser Virginia Roberts Giuffre. An anonymous royal aide, who was on the trip, said the prince actually had several hours of unaccounted free time in New York.

Prince Andrew's resignation: What does it mean for the royal family?
Maria Puente, USA TODAY

Can a British royal prince be "canceled" in today's modern cancel culture? Yes, he can, more or less, especially if he's doing it himself and with Queen Elizabeth II's approval.

Prince Andrew, 59, the queen's second son, announced Wednesday he's stepping away from his royal duties "for the foreseeable future" due to continuing controversy over his former friendship with convicted American sex-offender Jeffrey Epstein.

Assuming this becomes permanent, it means Andrew is retiring from public life decades earlier than his father, Prince Philip, 98, who only retired in 2017, tweeted longtime royal commentator Victoria Arbiter.

"Prince Andrew is 'stepping down' in response to a wave of self-induced scandal & poor choices but it’s extraordinary to think he’s effectively retiring from royal life 37 years before his father did," Arbiter posted on Twitter.  ...

Prince Andrew didn’t step back from royal duties – Queen Elizabeth ‘fired’ him
By Lee Brown
November 21, 2019 | 7:42am

Prince Andrew didn’t step down from royal duties — he was fired by his mom, Queen Elizabeth II, according to reports in the UK.

“The Queen summoned the Duke to Buckingham Palace to tell him her decision,” one of Andrew’s friends told the Sun of the Duke of York’s downfall that royal experts have called “monumental.”

“It was a devastating moment for both of them. His reputation is in tatters,” the source said, referring to the overwhelming backlash from his BBC interview discussing his ties to pedophile Jeffrey Epstein.

“It is unlikely he will ever perform royal duties again. He is disgraced,” the source told the paper. ...

Prince Andrew dumped by Royal Philharmonic Orchestra

The RPO, which is the latest in a string of organisations to review their relationship with the Duke of York, said they would like to express "gratitude to His Royal Highness for his support of the orchestra over the past 15 years".

Earlier today Prince Andrew was photographed horse riding in the grounds of Windsor Castle estate with the Queen.

It is the second time he has been spotted out and about since his decision to step back from royal duties, following the widely criticised TV interview over his relationship with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.

Perhaps Andrew ought to pack up an move to Australia, New Zealand, or even Canada for a few years.

This will in time blow over.
It will do so faster if he slips outta sight.

Prince Andrew and Ghislaine Maxwell had secret Buckingham rendezvous
By Laura Italiano
November 24, 2019 | 4:50am

Prince Andrew apparently just can’t quit accused Jeffrey Epstein procurer Ghislaine Maxwell.

The reckless royal secretly met with Epstein’s former gal pal at Buckingham palace in early June, the Daily Mail reported.

The hush-hush tete-a-tete came just two weeks after US prosecutors announced they were reopening an inquiry into Epstein’s alleged sex-trafficking operation — a probe that could well involve both Andrew and Maxwell.

The FBI wants to interview Andrew about his ties to Epstein, who committed suicide in a Manhattan federal prison in August. ... More at NY Post

UK police stand by decision not to investigate sex charges
51 minutes ago

LONDON (AP) — London police are defending the decision not to pursue a full investigation of allegations made against Prince Andrew by a woman who says she was trafficked by the late convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.

Police acknowledged Thursday that they received a complaint in 2015 from a woman alleging she was the victim of trafficking for sexual exploitation.

The woman, Virginia Roberts Giuffre, has said she was trafficked by Epstein and had sex three times with Prince Andrew starting in 2001, including once in London. ... Full story at AP
