ABC chief political analyst Matthew Dowd on Wednesday tweeted, then deleted an attack at Rep. Elise Stefanik (R., N.Y.) after she questioned witnesses during the House impeachment hearing.

"Elise stefanik is a perfect example of why just electing someone because they are a woman or a millennial doesn't necessarily get you the leaders we need," Dowd wrote in a now-deleted tweet.

ABC News political analyst Matthew Dowd faced heavy backlash for what critics described as a "sexist" attack aimed at Rep. Elise Stefanik, R-N.Y.

Stefanik was one of several Republicans who spoke out against the Democrats' impeachment inquiry into President Trump during its first public hearing Wednesday, but Dowd singled her out on Twitter.

"Elise Stefanik is a perfect example why just electing someone because they are a woman or a millennial doesn't necessarily get you the leaders we need," the self-proclaimed "proud independent" commentator wrote in the now-deleted tweet.

Dowd has since backed down, but it's important to understand what set him off. Rep. Stefanik simply read from the witness' non-public testimony transcript, getting that testimony into the public hearing. Needless to say, what she read - and the witness agreed was correct - was information Hate-Trumper Dowd didn't want to hear or be heard. Not being able to refute the testimony she elicited, Dowd went ad hominem, unsurprisingly,

House Intelligence Committee Chairman Adam Schiff, D-Calif., prohibited Rep. Elise Stefanik, R-N.Y., from asking questions to former Ukraine Ambassador Marie Yovanovitch when Rep. Devin Nunes, R-Calif., attempted to yield time to the New York congresswoman.

Stefanik attempted to question the witness testifying before the committee multiple times as Schiff repeatedly shut her down.

Commentary I've seen said this was likely a stunt with two purposes:

* Highlight Schiffty's loaded-dice rules;

* Defuse any attempt at a Yovanovitch Victim Card play by forcing Schiifty to allow Stefanik's question(s) or come down on Stefanik. Schiffty reacted predictably.
