If a political party does not have its foundation in the determination to advance a cause that is right and that is moral, then it is not a political party; it is merely a conspiracy to seize power.

-Dwight Eisenhower-

Seventeen Techniques for Truth Suppression

Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.

Someone asked what Ska is? Really? In simple terms, yes, Ska was a precursor to Reggae...

Back in 1964, when people heard Millie Smalll's "My Boy Lollipop", a very popular song, I have heard it said, that is Ska.

Guns of Navarone - The Skatalites

Skatalites, yes, best known Ska music.

To keep it simple,  Ska had a revival in the UK in the 1970s, 1980s and a rather well known band, Madness, was Ska. So, Ska is just another name of music like Reggae which came later.

Madness - One step beyond, the music doesn't really start until about 50 seconds in.

So, he says something about "Rock Steady", that's Jamaican music too of the same time period, one would have to read up on it.

Obviously, lots of horns.

Peter Tosh wrote this and...some of their early music was very excellent, it was not always state-of-the-art recording but has it's own charm.  There are more modern versions of this when they started recording in London and so on but I like this.  Maybe they were not as much into the Rastafarian thing yet.  And maybe this is more Ska than Reggae, I don't know.   That's Peter Tosh singing by the way.

Romans 12:16-21

Live in harmony with one another; do not be haughty, but associate with the lowly, do not claim to be wiser than you are.  Do not repay anyone evil for evil, but take thought for what is noble in the sight of all.  If it is possible, so far as it depends on you, live peaceably with all…do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.

Watched  "Garth Brooks: The Library of Congress Gershwin Prize" broadcast on my local PBS station last night. I recorded it,and it will be enjoyed multiple times before it gets deleted.

2 hours of VERY enjoyable entertainment. He doesn't just do his own songs,he covers people like Bob Seeger,Bob

Pretty much everyone in DC with any influence showed up,including  Pelosi and several senators and congresscritters.

I found it interesting when at one point he talked about how great America is,and pretty much everybody stood up and applauded, with the obvious exception of Pelosi and those with her.

You have to hear Chris Stapleton's opening  with a cover of "The Thing they call Rodeo" that kicked the show off that was so good at the end of the night when Garth thanked everyone,he thanked Stapleton for "showing me how the song should have been done". That's some SERIOUSLY high praise!

Lots of other singers do covers of his songs too,and all of them do great jobs, but Stapleton's opening sat an impossibly high bar to pass.

This is PBS,so it's going to air over and over for months,so do a web search of your local PBS station to see when they air it,and then record it. You owe it to yourself.

Tex Ritter's Ranch Party (1957) - Johnny Cash, Bobby Helms & Patsy Cline

"Town Hall Party was an American country music radio and television show broadcast over KXLA-AM, Pasadena, California, KFI-AM, Los Angeles, California, and KTTV-TV. The first radio broadcast was in the autumn of 1951.[1]
Promoter William B. Wagnon, Jr., had been booking such acts as Bob Wills and His Texas Playboys in ballrooms between Bakersfield and Sacramento for several years when he decided to extend his operations to Los Angeles. Burt "Foreman" Phillips had been promoting country and Western barn dance programs at the old Town Hall building, situated at 400 South Long Beach Boulevard in Compton, near Long Beach. Wagnon acquired Phillips' lease and commenced promoting a combined dance-and-show, featuring any and all country & western recording artists working in the area and available on Saturday nights. An estimated 3,000 patrons could be accommodated in the Town Hall Ballroom.[2]
Wagnon instructed the performers to play only music which could be danced to, and to keep individual songs short and plentiful, in order to satisfy everyone's tastes"

With the recent passing of John Prine, I am reminded that Prine was an uncredited co-author of David Allan Coe's legendary "You Never Even Called Me by My Name," also known as the "perfect country and western song." Steve Goodman allegedly gave Prine a share of the royalties anyway, which Prine used to buy a jukebox.
