The incident is reportedly taking place on board Air Europa flight UX1094 to Madrid that had been due to take off this evening

Police have swarmed to Schiphol Airport this evening after reports of a suspected hijacking onboard a plane.

There are unconfirmed reports that men armed with knives have attempted to hijack an Air Europa plane that was due to fly to Madrid this evening.

CNN)The Dutch Royal Military Police is investigating a "suspicious situation" at Amsterdam's Schiphol Airport, the spokesperson for the force told CNN.

According to a tweet posted on Schiphol's official Twitter account, the police are looking at "a situation on board of a plane at Amsterdam Airport Schiphol."
The airport is Europe's third busiest, after London's Heathrow and Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport.
This is a developing story.

A false hijacking alarm brought Amsterdam's Schiphol airport to standstill

CNN) — Fears of a hijacking at Amsterdam Airport Schiphol briefly brought one of Europe's busiest airports to a standstill on Wednesday -- before it emerged that an alarm had been activated by mistake.

The Dutch Royal Military Police and other emergency services flocked to the scene, as rumors of a possible hostage situation spread.

The authorities said they were investigating a situation on a plane. Eyewitnesses reported that parts of the airport had been closed off and shared images of crowds and confusion.

Glad it wasn't a real situation. Some EU countries rely on the passport checks at major airports like Schiphol. Some years ago my daughter flew through Schiphol on her way from China to Finland. She went through necessaries at Schiphol, and on arriving in Helsinki expected to go through passport check again, but as she kept walking toward where she thought it should be found herself out on the access street of the airport terminal. She was disappointed, because she was looking forward to having a Finland stamp in her passport.

I think this was the airport I went through when I had to work for a week in Amsterdam. I also got to see the Van Gogh museum!
