Justice Dept. Is Said to Open Criminal Inquiry Into Its Own Russia Investigation

WASHINGTON â€” For more than two years, President Trump has repeatedly attacked the Russia investigation, portraying it as a hoax and illegal even months after the special counsel closed it. Now, Mr. Trumpâ€™s own Justice Department has opened a criminal investigation into how it all began.

Justice Department officials have shifted an administrative review of the Russia investigation closely overseen by Attorney General William P. Barr to a criminal inquiry, according to two people familiar with the matter. The move gives the prosecutor running it, John H. Durham, the power to subpoena for witness testimony and documents, to impanel a grand jury and to file criminal charges.

The opening of a criminal investigation is likely to raise alarms that Mr. Trump is using the Justice Department to go after his perceived enemies. Mr. Trump fired James B. Comey, the F.B.I. director under whose watch agents opened the Russia inquiry, and has long assailed other top former law enforcement and intelligence officials as partisans who sought to block his election.

Oh boy. If requesting Ukraine help investigate obvious corruption on the part of US officials is an impeachable offense then I can only imagine how the rats will react to this.

I think the headline says it all -- Justice Department "Said" to open -- not "Is" opening a criminal inquiry. Secondly, IMHO just because Barr is now the AG doesn't mean that the corruption within the DOJ is miraculously gone. This will go nowhere, just like all the information/investigations regarding the corruption surrounding those involved in the last administration, from the president on down. Just not going to happen.

Personally, I'm not believing that the leftists only chance of winning is by impeaching Trump. Never, ever underestimate the corruption and fraud during the elections. That was very evident during the mid terms -- it nearly cost Florida a GOP governor and also affected other outcomes around the country.

DEMS are still going to vote DEM and not every GOP voter is sold on Trump. I don't think his win is inevitable if he isn't impeached. I think that is a foolish and false assumption.

The original New York Times piece is a hoot! When you read it keep in mind this is supposed to be a news story! However, it reads like an editorial.

It looks like the stenographers, oops, reporters at the New York Times forgot to show up for Journalism 101 classes. The piece reads like it was dictated by the DNC to two operatives posing as reporters at the Times.

The intent of this piece is to obfuscate the real story: that AG Barrâ€™s ongoing investigation into 2016 campaign has just begun the criminal prosecution phase of the investigation, identifying Obamaâ€™s justice department as possibly having illegally spied on the presidential campaign of the opposition party in an attempt to interfere in the 2016 election.

Thatâ€™s the story, not that Trump is seeking revenge but rather wanting to get to the bottom of the intelligence communityâ€™s attempt to sabotage, first Trumpâ€™s campaign and when that failed, his administration.

Of course that's the real story and everything has been done, including the investigation of Russian collusion, to divert attention. Whether or not AG Barr has enough 'cooperation' and people who aren't corrupt within his department to actually do something remains to be seen. Personally, I am doubtful. The left is of course calling for him recuse himself, asking for his dismissal, etc.

Looking ahead one year:

It is going o be busy. On one hand, Trump and dems running for election. Nov. 2020.

Impeachment intends to damage Trump; if not to remove him, then toprevent his reelection.

In the campaign Trump needs to tell the story of his opponents' highly serious misdeeds. No just against him, but against our country.
