President Trump on Wednesday sought to distance himself from a Turkish military operation against Kurdish forces in northeastern Syria, days after he drew bipartisan backlash for announcing U.S. troops would vacate the area.

"This morning, Turkey, a NATO member, invaded Syria. The United States does not endorse this attack and has made it clear to Turkey that this operation is a bad idea," Trump said in a statement issued by the White House.

The president clarified that there are no American soldiers in the area where the Turkish incursion is taking place, and defended his efforts to pull U.S. forces out of the region, even as his strategy has faced relentless criticism from Republicans and Democrats alike.

WTF did he think was gonna happen???  He can't distance himself from this...his actions are why this is happening.

He owns whatever happens.

:amen: and  :amen:  Reports are now coming in that Trump is threatening the 'economy' of Turkey. So what!  That is somehow going to resolve the issue of ISIS prisoners that were held and are now being set free?  What about the deaths of innocent Syrian civilians?  I want to know why he made this decision and who gave him this advice.  Obviously he didn't have a freakin' clue, and he ignored advice from those with a decade or more of experience over in the ME.

I believe Graham is right, this will be one of the worst decisions of his presidency and may just cost him re-election. There is no turning back.  He made this decision in spite of being warned, yet the Narcissist in Chief failed to listen and a disaster is already on his hands.

Erdogan doesn't need us and he really doesn't need NATO (NATO doesn't need Turkey for that matter)...he's cast his lot with Russia and Iran.  Both of which...are propping up the Syrian government...which is why Turkey is allowed to attack into Syria to go after the Kurds without any fear of repercussions from Assad or his Russian and Iranian masters.

The economic threat is a hollow one and Erdogan knows it.
