'El Chapo' rival charged with drug crimes, leading 'continuing criminal enterprise'
By Morgan Phillips | Fox News

Alleged Juarez cartel boss Vicente Carillo Fuentes was indicted Wednesday on charges of running a continuing criminal enterprise, money laundering and drug and weapons offenses, federal prosecutors announced.

Authorities say Carrillo Fuentes, known as "El Viceroy," headed the cartel founded by his late brother, Amado. The Juarez cartel was allied with Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman’s Sinaloa cartel until 2004 but the two became rivals again after El Chapo order the murder of Carrillo Fuentes’ other brother Rodolfo.

In return, Carrillo Fuentes ordered the killing of El Chapo’s brother, sparking a bloody war between the Sinaloa and Juarez cartels which cost at least 8,000 lives. The two gangs had shared investments in drug shipments, transportation infrastructure and contacts with corrupt government officials.
