House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) on Tuesday posted a video parodying the opening sequence of the Netflix series “Stranger Things†to accuse Democrats of inconsistency on impeachment.
“The only thing Democrat [sic] leaders care about is politics, not facts. Here's a throwback to when they USED to believe that impeachment was incredibly dangerous and damaging for the country,†McCarthy captioned the video, which depicts clips from the 1998 impeachment of then-President Bill Clinton.
Clips used in the video include current House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jerry Nadler (D-N.Y.) saying impeachment “is an undoing of a national election†and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.), then a U.S. representative, warning of impeachment being “used as a routine tool to fight political battles.â€
The video closes on a revised version of the sci-fi series’ logo reading “Democrat Hypocrisy is a Strange Thing.†A spokesperson for McCarthy's office confirmed to The Hill his office produced the video.
