Support for impeachment rises 7% amid whistleblower complaint: Poll

In some of the first polling data since Democrats launched an impeachment inquiry into President Trump, a survey found that support for his impeachment has risen 7%.

The Morning Consult poll, conducted from Tuesday to Thursday, found that 43% of American voters believe Congress should begin impeachment proceedings to remove Trump from office, up from 36% last weekend.

The survey came during a busy week in Washington, D.C. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi announced on Tuesday a formal impeachment inquiry into the president; on Wednesday, the White House released a transcript of a phone call that is at the center of the whistleblower complaint; and on Thursday, the complaint was made public, buttressed by acting Director of National Intelligence Joseph Maguire’s testimony before the House Intelligence Committee.
