Amid rising property values and business development, Brazoria County commissioners have again lowered the county property tax rate, dropping it by more than 1 cent to 41.52 cents per $100 valuation, which represents a 17 percent decline in the rate since 2015.

County Judge Matt Sebesta said a thriving economy has been key to keeping the tax rate on the decline. The new rate equals the effective tax rate, a formula that calculates what is needed to bring in roughly the same amount of property tax revenue as the year before, and goes into effect with the new budget on Oct. 1.

“We have been blessed with a very, very strong economy,” Sebesta said. “Since 2013, we’ve seen about $31 billion in petrochemical investment, which has impacted our land and housing prices. In the last five to six years, we’ve seen our values on homes and land go up.”...

Well, they dropped tax rates and raised property value out here in my neck of the woods. It will be a wash.
