U.N. General Assembly
It’s ‘Dictator Day’ at the U.N. — with Trump in the middle
From Bolsonaro to Sisi to Erdogan, the early speaking lineup at the U.N. General Assembly is replete with autocratic leaders.

By NAHAL TOOSI 09/24/2019 05:02 AM EDT

President Donald Trump kicks off the main session of the United Nations General Assembly on Tuesday alongside a rogue’s gallery of dictators, populist lectern-bangers and would-be autocrats.

The initial speaking order at the world’s top diplomatic gathering is a coincidence, and yet it serves as a vivid reminder of democracy’s declining fortunes around the world. It’s also already drawing attention to Trump’s repeated encouragement, and occasional emulation, of authoritarian leaders.

Talking about religious freedom and instead of condemning the persecution in Turkey he calls Erdogan a friend.

Trump loves dictators.

Yes, it appears he does.  There doesn't seem to be any that aren't his friend.  I do applaud that he was able to free the pastor.  But the pastor is one of God knows how many who are persecuted in Turkey under Erdogan.  What a farce to stand there and say your for religious freedom but not hold the fire to the feet of those who persecute on the basis of faith.  Erdogan is for extremist Muslims.

Kim Jong-Un is Trumps friend also.  And I wouldn't even want to try to describe the horrible human abuses in North Korea.

And its part of the reason that I just can't stomach Trump.  The Christians that believe the prophesies of the fireman and that Trump is the one for such a time as this.  Once described Tiananmen Square as Chinese Strength.  He does not have the heart of God.  He is brutal and it comes out.  Now maybe he uses this as an avenue for foreign negotiation.  But pandering to Dictators.  Tickling their ears and making them feel good is not going to change who they are.

An interview that Trump gave to Playboy in 1990 has just come to my attention. If I’m the last to know about it, forgive me. Trump was asked about Gorbachev — who was nearing the end of his time in power. Trump said, “Russia is out of control and the leadership knows it. That’s my problem with Gorbachev. Not a firm enough hand.” His interviewer asked, “You mean firm hand as in China?” Trump answered, “When the students poured into Tiananmen Square, the Chinese government almost blew it. Then they were vicious, they were horrible, but they put it down with strength. That shows you the power of strength. Our country is right now perceived as weak … as being spit on by the rest of the world –”

And the whole thing is laughable.  A speech at the UN about religious rights.  A speech to talk about religious rights, then praise those that persecute people.   The UN is notorious for human rights violations.  Who would even think to use the platform to forwards any kind of human rights?

The Corrupt UN Strikes Again, Human Rights Council Sets Up Resolution Applauding Venezuelan Dictator Maduro

The annual United Nations General Assembly officially kicked off Monday in New York City and the "Human Rights Council" is proving its corruption once again.

Today, the Council is voting on a resolution praising Venezuelan dictator Nicolas Maduro. It is being sponsored by Iran and was written by...Maduro.

Why Is the UN Protecting Child Rapists?

After decades of horrors, somebody has finally decided to “do something.” The United Nations and its “peacekeeping” forces have long been known as a haven for pedophiles, child molesters, and rapists — a place where men willing to put on UN blue helmets can get guns, access to vulnerable children, and even “diplomatic immunity” to protect them from justice for their ghastly crimes. UN so-called aid workers are also deeply involved, according to top UN officials. Estimates suggest there are some 60,000 sexual abuse victims of UN officials each decade, maybe more. And so far, with the UN protecting the child rapists and abusers from prosecution, very little has been done to deal with the horrifying crisis.

While the UN has recently started to admit that it has a problem, the reality is that the perpetrators are almost all still roaming free. Indeed, many still work for the UN! And instead of punishing abusers and rapists, the ones who face punishment — former UN human rights official Anders Kompass, for example — are typically those who try to blow the whistle and protect the children from further abuse. Left to its own devices, and absent much media scrutiny, the UN is likely to continue doing nothing but talk in perpetuity. In fact, some leading internationalists have even called for giving the UN more power in response to the horrors.

Faced with that reality, a new organization of attorneys, former UN officials, and advocates for victims was recently founded to end the impunity and protect the innocent. The Switzerland-based non-governmental organization (NGO), known as Hear Their Cries, released a statement on World UN Day condemning the “ongoing child rape epidemic” that has plagued the UN for so long. At a press conference in Washington, D.C, last month, the group called for UN member governments to create a joint investigation protocol to end the abuse and the impunity surrounding it.
“The United Nations does not effectively investigate and prosecute perpetrators of child rape,” explained Peter Gallo, a Hear Their Cries board member and a former investigator with the UN Office of Internal Oversight Services (OIOS). “This must change.”

The United Nations’ Shameful Treatment of Persecuted Christians
By Alexander W. Titus on January 16, 2018

iscriminatory policies and negligence within the United Nations are aggravating a crisis among Christians in the Middle East. Over one million Iraqi and Syrian Christians have fled their homes and remain displaced as a result of radical Islamic terrorism and the bloody Syrian civil war. Unknown to most, Christians across the Middle East regularly face persecution and violence for their faith. UN refugee camps remain unsafe for Syrian Christians to enter, and most Iraqi Christians who have fled their country have yet to gain official refugee status.
This failure to recognize and reform these problems is disgraceful.

The Trump administration should force the United Nations to take all necessary steps to ensure that persecuted Christians are treated with dignity. These reforms should include formally granting displaced Iraqi Christians an expedited refugee status, creating refugee camps specifically for persecuted Christian minorities from Iraq and Syria, and cracking down on radical Islamic extremism within existing refugee camps.

Trump could have delivered the speech on the lawn of the White House and it would have had more meaning.  Absent the friends part of course.

Thanks for all your posts @Chosen Daughter

All I need to know about Trump's love of dictators is listening to his comments after meeting the likes of Kim and Putin.  We keep hearing how Trump trusts Kim, admires Putin, etc. etc.  Then when, say, WaPo prints an unfavorable article about him, Trump starts talking about curbing freedom of the press.  This is the guy who took an oath to uphold the Constitution, but I don't think he knows what's in it.  Unlike these other countries, we have safeguards to our freedoms.  It must pain Trump that there is this pesky piece of paper called the Constitution which so far has prevented him from running roughshod over our freedoms.

Trump so wants to be like dictators who control every facet of their subjects' lives.  In those countries, if a newspaper published an unflattering article about "Dear Leader," not only would that paper be shut down, but everyone involved in that paper would be executed (and maybe their families too).  Trump wants to silence dissent and take away our rights.  Then he could be just like his heroes such as Kim.

Trump supporters tell me all this flattery of Kim and the others is a negotiating strategy.  I don't think so.  If it was a negotiating strategy, he would have negotiated something substantial.  This allegedly successful, art of the deal guy can't seem to negotiate his way out of a paper bag.  No, that flattery is sincere.  He wants what they have -- ultimate power and control.

And the sad thing is his followers do too.

The author, Nahal Toosi looks pretty left wing if one looks her up.

https://twitter.com/nahaltoosi

On Egypt, soo, Obama Administration asked Mubarak to step down, that's the disaster, Muslim Brotherhood came to power, Sisi and the army overthrew the MB in power. So, to Toosi, are we suppose to want the Muslim Brotherhood in there? That's what you got with free elections in Egypt which probably means, Egypt can't have free elections or that is whom they elect.

And Bolsonaro, that's a split choice. I don't understand what is going on down there however, in the wilds of South America, you might be better with a strong man when you have a myriad of power criminal gangs in the country.

People like Toosi are probably all the Obama hacks who screwed things up to high heaven to begin with.

Weak article.

Oh, yes, out of the peanut gallery, bringing up these issues again, Kim etc. Sorry you aren't getting the nuclear war you must desire.

Are those  your words? Your way would see ISIS still winning or at least, it would have taken more time to bust the Caliphate and the articles you post, 1 is from 2018, another from 2017. So, this is just scattered information, not very significant really. Some of what you post are just anti-UN rants as there have been for 70 years or so. Big deal.

Yeah, we condemned China's treatment of the Uighur people, so did Germany, Netherlands, Canada. So, only 4 countries, maybe I"m missing one, signed off on the complaint. That means these other countries did not. Why are  you fussing about this?  At least, we condemned them, more than these other countries did.

My way?  All I am saying is that there is nothing about the UN that is legitimate.  It is a sounding board for extremists and pedophiles.  The years of the article make no difference except the one a couple months ago.  From the time they stepped foot on New York soil to the present time they are useless.  And worse than that they are horrendous human rights abusers.  The platform has no substance.  It always sides with the worst countries and worst dictators.  Israel seems pretty upset too over the Erdogan speech.  Friends.  They are so great!

That's a vague accusation too. Yeah, Turkey is a Nato ally. What are you saying? Dissolve Nato? No thanks for them getting us through the cold war and being a very important UN ally at that. Sending troops to Afghanistan after 911? Those are our enemies?

You're just cherry picking, we don't live in a perfect world. And again, if you are so serious about religious persecution, why not thank Trump for helping beat back the greatest anti-Christian threat there is? ISIS?  Totally silent on this.    :thud:

So, your way seems pretty contradictory.

Kim Jong-Un is Trumps friend also.

If the President can continue to keep Kim Jong-Un from firing a nuclear weapon at Hawaii or the US Mainland @Chosen Daughter I don't care if he calls Kim "Mama".

I wish you could care less for the bathwater and more for the baby.

IMHO I don't see that Trump considers Putin or Jong-Un as 'his friends', I see it more that he likes to keep his enemies closer. He may praise them so that he can keep the dialog and communication going, but I don't think he trusts them nor truly considers them friends.  IF Trump were to disgrace them, or diminish their leadership 'skills', why on earth would they be willing to negotiate anything with him?

As for the U.N., they are a corrupt entity guilty of human rights violations.  We need to get completely out of the U.N.
Romans 12:16-21

Live in harmony with one another; do not be haughty, but associate with the lowly, do not claim to be wiser than you are.  Do not repay anyone evil for evil, but take thought for what is noble in the sight of all.  If it is possible, so far as it depends on you, live peaceably with all…do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.
