Schiff introduces bill to require agencies report spending at Trump properties

House Intelligence Committee Chairman Adam Schiff (D-Calif.) on Monday introduced legislation that would require federal agencies to report their spending at President Trump's businesses.

Schiff's bill would not prohibit federal spending at Trump properties, but mandates that agencies submit a report to the Office of Government Ethics detailing any official expenses at companies owned by Trump. The report would have to be made public within 10 days.


Democrats had already been investigating whether Trump has been violating the Constitution's Emoluments Clause, which prohibits presidents from accepting money or gifts outside their official salary.

“This president has profited off of the presidency in an unprecedented way,” Schiff said in a statement. “Each time President Trump, accompanied by Secret Service agents, White House staff and other federal officials, makes an official visit to one of his properties, the Trump Organization profits."

Schiff’s a liar. This loser “bill” is nothing more than a propaganda vehicle to give the suggestion that the president might be illegally profiting—even though at the start of his term Trump signed an agreement to reimburse the treasury any profits on state-visit guests to his properties.

Trump’s companies have been hounded since he announced his campaign for president. As a result he has lost at least $1-2 billion in business.

Thankfully, he’s indicated he’s well off enough to absorb the hit and is proud to do so in service to deplorable America.

Trump will always have my support.

Depending on the wording, this could be a "Bill of Attainder", something expressly forbidden by the US Constitution.

Schiff is trying to resuscitate the recently debunked faux-scandal of the USAF crews having stayed at a Trump-owned facility. Debunked by:

1. The contract for USAF planes being refueled nearby was signed during the Obama Administration;

2. The percentage of crews staying overnight that stayed at Trump's property is less than 10%;

3. Trump's property cost less per night than competitors;

4. Trump's property was at least sometimes chosen because nearer facilities were fully booked.

Why hasn't one of the democommies introduced a bill for all travel by Congress be done by Greyhound bus. That would minimize their carbon footprint rather than travel by private jet.
