An Abrupt Move That Stunned Aides: Inside Trump’s Aborted Attack on Iran
By Peter Baker, Eric Schmitt and Michael Crowley

    Sept. 21, 2019

WASHINGTON — By the time President Trump met with congressional leaders on the afternoon of June 20, he had already decided to retaliate against Iran for shooting down an American surveillance drone. But for once, he kept his cards close to the vest, soliciting advice rather than doing all of the talking.

“Why don’t you go after the launch sites?” a Republican lawmaker asked.

“Well,” Mr. Trump replied with a hint, “I think you’ll like the decision.”

I think one can read that full article at the above link. Per it being published in the NYT, here is their link.

It's actually a pretty good article, it also refers to a target that the article says, we would have vacated all Iranians before hitting it so as to not kill them.

Considering that most of us are not fans of the NY Times, especially the editorial side, they still have some good reporting like this above. Maybe it's not totally accurate, I'll bet it's close.

Seems this article is all about the usage of discretion by a Commander in Chief.
No punishment, in my opinion, is too great, for the man who can build his greatness upon his country's ruin~  George Washington

#BREAKING

Saudi Arabia plans to present documents & evidence to the UN General Assembly this week proving #Iran's role in the recent attack on Aramco oil facilities.

This, IMO, is the way any military action should unfold, opening the door for a possible coalition of Western forces, not just the US.

Britian's Johnson blames Iran for attack on Saudi oil facilities, could join US military effort
Fox News, Sep 23, 2019

British Prime Minister Boris Johnson on Sunday blamed Iran for the recent attacks on oil facilities in Saudi Arabia and said that the U.K. would consider taking part in  U.S.-led military actions to support Saudi defenses.

While flying to New York late Sunday for the U.N. General Assembly, Johnson told reporters "the U.K. is attributing responsibility with a very high degree of probability to Iran" for the attack by drones and cruise missiles.

"We will be working with our American friends and our European friends to construct a response that tries to de-escalate tensions in the Gulf region," Johnson said.
