Four of the five American cities with the greatest incidences of unsheltered homelessness are in the Golden State

More than half a million people are homeless each night in the United States, a new White House report has found. And nearly half of them are concentrated in one state: California.

All told, 47% of all unsheltered homeless people nationwide — meaning those who sleep in areas not meant for habitation, such as sidewalks, parks, cars and abandoned buildings, rather than in shelters — live in the Golden State, according to a new report on homelessness from the White House Council of Economic Advisers. Unsheltered homeless people represent just over a third (35%) of the overall homeless population nationwide.

At the city level, four of the five cities with the highest rate of unsheltered homelessness are in California: San Francisco, Los Angeles, Santa Rosa and San Jose. Seattle joins the California municipalities in the top five.

Just to put that 47% number in perspective, California has just 10% of the population of the US. So a whole lot of stupid going on here. OTOH, I suspect that February weather in any of those cities is a whole lot more bearable than many states of the US, so there is one attraction for which government cannot be blamed.

San Jose and neighboring cities are at the south end of San Francisco Bay. There are multiple creeks and at least one "river" that flow through the cities into the bay. These make for nice parks and walking/running trails. Or would, but for homeless encampments, such as this one on the Guadalupe River that I drive by every week day, https://www.google.com/maps/@37.3529655,-121.912073,125m/data=. Or this, https://www.google.com/maps/@37.3811032,-121.9003385,40a,50y,1.22t/data=!3m1!1e3, on nearby Coyote Creek. (switch to "Satellite View" if it isn't already)

If, as anti-Covid-vaxxers claim, https://www.poynter.org/fact-checking/2021/robert-f-kennedy-jr-said-the-covid-19-vaccine-is-the-deadliest-vaccine-ever-made-thats-not-true/ , https://gospelnewsnetwork.org/2021/11/23/covid-shots-are-the-deadliest-vaccines-in-medical-history/ , The Vaccine is deadly, where in the US have Pfizer and Moderna hidden the millions of bodies of those who died of "vaccine injury"? Is reality a Big Pharma Shill?

Millions now living should have died. Anti-Covid-Vaxxer ghouls hardest hit.

Obamacare mandates Substance Treatment, as one of the "Essential Benefits." That opened the door for a vibrant "Treatment" industry in California.

Huge potential profits, and "doing good," present the reason for nationwide recreuiting, of derelict addicts and alcoholics.

"Wouldn't you like to be on a plane to the beach, tomorrow? Trips to the gym, the beach, everyday?

California has had "Group Homes," for decades, since GHW Bush's ADA passage. Up to six people, with disabilities. Addiction, is a disability. Treatment corporations,, rent and operate "sober living" homes.

Insurance covers initial detox, "treatment, some length of time in housing, but when insurance runs out, they get duped. It is called "curbing."

That scenario explaiins a big aspect of homelessness. Gov. Newsome recently said many come from Texas.

I know that many come from out of state.

Over 500 miles on coast are called "Recovery Riviera." Getting curbed, becoming homeless in the most ideal climate on the spinning mudball, is better than Tucscon in the the summer, or Minnesota in the winter. (just a couple of places with pre-Obamacare treatment histories.

Some people succeed in treatment. Betty Ford center, Hazelden (Minnesota) etc.

But in history therehave always been chronic abusers. The homeless are for the most part, the people unwilling, or incapable of changing.

Society's "compassion" and respect for their "personal rights" mean they will likely not go away.

In the vocabulary of Alcoholics Anonymous, "willing" is an action word.

Santa Cruz a couple of decades ago decided to show the world how compassionat they are and hosted a well advertised homeless convention.

Homeless from all over the country came to attend.

They liked it...

They stayed...

I kid you not...

I'm not surprised in the least.  @DB

Santa Barbara was like that 30 years ago, when it seemed like a liberal virtue signal tol tolerate some homeless. .  That is 340 miles away BTW

Santa Cruz and Santa Barbare have in common, Univ. of Calif. campuses.

  • That is the problem with everything. They try and make it better without realizing the old is fine.
