More natural gas from the Eagle Ford Shale of South Texas and the Permian Basin of West Texas is flowing south of the border in Mexico.
Just three weeks after resolving a contract dispute with the Mexican government, Infraestructura Marina del Golfo, a joint venture between the Mexican subsidiaries of Canadian pipeline operator TC Energy and San Diego utility company Sempra Energy, announced Tuesday that a $2.6 billion pipeline designed to move natural gas from deep South Texas to Central Mexico has started commercial operations.
The underwater Sur de Texas-Tuxpan Pipeline is designed to move 2.6 billion cubic feet of natural gas per day, the 42-inch and 480-mile pipeline begins in the Gulf of Mexico a few miles east of Brownsville and continues underwater to power plants in the coastal cities of Altamira, Tamaulipas and Tuxpan, Veracruz. It connects with other pipelines to move natural gas to other destinations further inland.
