Rep. Tulsi Gabbard (D-HI) launched a profane attack on President Donald Trump’s foreign policy on Monday evening, denouncing the idea of defending Saudi Arabia: “We are not your prostitutes. You are not our pimp.”

Gabbard was responding to President Trump’s statements about a potential U.S. response to a recent attack by Houthi rebels on oilfields in Saudi Arabia that threatened global oil supplies and the security of a key American ally.

In a video released on Twitter, Gabbard declared:

Yesterday President Trump offered to place our military, my brothers and sisters in uniform, under the command [sic] of Prince Mohammed bin Salman, the dictator of the Islamist Kingdom of Saudi Arabia [sic]. Trump said, “[We] are locked and loaded, but are waiting to hear from the Kingdom as to who they believe was the cause of this attack, and under what terms we would proceed!” Mr. President, as you know, I have never engaged in hateful rhetoric against you [sic], or your family, and I never will, but your offering our military assets to the dictator of Saudi Arabia to use as he sees fit, is a betrayal of my brothers and sisters in uniform who are ready to give our lives for our country, not for the Islamist dictator of Saudi Arabia. For you to think that you can pimp out our proud servicemen and women to the Prince of Saudi Arabia is disgraceful, and it once again shows that you are unfit to serve as our commander in chief. As a member of Congress, and as a soldier, I and all of my brothers and sisters in uniform have taken an oath to protect and defend the American people and the Constitution of the United States of America. There is nothing in our Constitution that gives you the power to go to war without the express consent of Congress [sic], but to speak of giving you the power to offer our military to a foreign power like the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to use as they wish — President Trump, your words and actions are a betrayal of my brothers and sisters in uniform, the American people, and our Constitution. My fellow servicemembers and I — we are not your prostitutes. You are not our pimp.

Her point aside, apparently Ms Gabbard realizes her refusal to join the rest of the rat field in profane attacks on the president has left her campaign high & dry. I guess she's serious about getting the nomination after all.

That kind of language is wildly inappropriate for someone who is still an officer in the National Guard. And frankly, it pisses me off that she took it upon herself to speak for all of her "brothers and sisters in uniform", many of whom I'm quite certain would like to express their own opinions about her in equally colorful language.

Agreed, could be a UCMJ offense.

That's what I commented on Twitter. Heck of a thing for a military officer to say about his or her commander in chief.

UCMJ articles, 91, 94, and 99.
Potentially she could face court martial, or at least be forced to resign her commission. But she won't. Nobody has the balls to make it happen.

  • Dems-greatest existential threat to USA republic!
Gabbard has said some things along the way to make her sound sensible, but this is out of line.

Her campaign is going no where.  The Dems appear to be enthralled with Fauxcahontas, which is great from my view.  I think she is a nutjob on her best day.  Her ideas have no place in Congress, and I believe most people will not buy this lying shack of sh*t's insanity.

True, and that is a truly sad state of affairs!

If she is announcing that she will refuse to obey her chain of command, only and unless she personally agrees with her orders (which she did), then there is no place for her in the U.S. Military. That is the exact opposite of the foundation of standard military conduct.

What an odd campaign tactic.  Makes no sense at all.

That is the problem with having members of Congress on active duty military service. Not only can they never be deployed like a normal soldier, but it is also an inherent conflict of interests. Since Congress oversees much of what the military does, she has undue influence on military command well beyond her rank.

Theoretically, even if she was a simple O-3 in the Army, as a member of Congress she would have O-7s saluting her. This situation is not conducive to military structure and command. Not Tulsi in particular, but any member of the Armed Forces who becomes a high-level operator in the U.S. Government, including a member of Congress, must be made to resign. Imagine if President Trump or whomever else, became President while on active duty? This situation is simply not tenable.

That makes FAR too much sense @240B.  I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for it.

Gabbard: Trump doesn't have power to use US military for Saudi Arabia's interests
https://thehill.com/hilltv/rising/461759-gabbard-trump-doesnt-have-power-to-use-us-military-for-saudi-arabias-interests

But he sure as hell has to power to use it in protecting ours!

Right.  She's obviously just trying to get back "on stage".  Next, she'll be kissing up to Harris and hi-fiving Bernie.

I agree completely.

No, she wouldn't.  Members of Congress are not in the military, nor are they in the civilian portion of the chain of command.  They are outside it, and should not be saluted.  The only civilians who rate salutes are the President, the Secretary of Defense, and the civilian Secretaries of each service, though only by members of the military in that service.  Some of the branches require, by order, the saluting of the VP and/or those who have been awarded the Medal of Honor.

But not members of Congress.
